My 70's version of Dash is much more sudsy, I'll send you some but keep the fabric softener handy to cut those suds...

Great pictures Jon! Your '69 LK Looks like a fun machine...with Dash's controlled suds! Does water actually fill the tub and cause splashing action on the Super Wash cycle?

Let us know when the first shipment on JonDash is ready! ;-)

Jon,
Real cool - just the right amount of suds. Actually with all the HE soaps like the Tide HE I use almost no suds are generated in my LG.

Super Wash

Austin, Super Wash actually uses a lower water level to give the effect of Kelvinator's Magic Minute, except it lasts longer. Instead of starting the cycle with a one minute purge, when the combo is started at Super Wash, it fills with hot water without the wash stream operating. Then the machine drains down to the Balance Level. This holds the water level below the bottom of the drum and is used in the final spin to be able to provide water for the balance tanks. Once the water level is reduced to this level, the next timer increment starts the wash stream and water swirls through the detergent dispenser to put the detergent into solution. The owner's manual warns that the wash stream might appear weak or intermittent because of the lower water level. At the 12 minute mark, which is the dividing line between Super Wash and Wash on the timer, the water level is brought up to the wash level. What makes the Super Wash and the one minute purge possible is the construction of the inner drum and outer tub in the combo. The water fill is through the blower which is mounted to the back of the outer tub. It fills through the blower to wash lint off the vanes of the fan. While some of the water does fall through the back of the inner drum and drains out through the drum's perforations, not all of it has to do so. Where it lands is in a sump area that is 5 inches deep below the the bottom of the inner drum. Yes, the items in the load get sort of sprinkled as the combo fills and soak up a bit more water in the one minute of tumbling before the water level is reduced, but without the Wash Stream spraying water into the tumbling load, things can stay remarkably dry until the water level is reduced and the Wash Stream starts. The purge is also successful because the pump is able to pump water out while the machine is filling. This is possible because of one of the diverter valves, the so-called rear diverter valve which channels water either to the recirculating system or to the drain hose.

Tom: in my machine at the start of Super when the stream starts if there is not enough water to satisfy the low level water switch the machine will take on water to satisfy that switch so there is always a poweful stream in the Super cycle. But as you pointed out never enough water to ever come out of the sump so the clothes really tumble damp with detergent liquid thrown at them for SUPER SCRUBULATION!

Tom, thanks for the information! That Super Wash sure is an interesting cycle and I've wondered how it works!

I put a 1/4 cup of my 70's Dash in the Duet last night for a full load of work clothes, Whitest Whites cycle (most agressive tumble pattern and high speed spins) and it worked beautifully. No suds to speak of and crystal clear rinses! I may have found a niche for the Dash!
