Greetings!

We have looked at this website for a number of weeks and decided we would like to be members.

We are in the throws of recreating a retro kitchen in our home and are under construction as I type this...UGG! We have the stove, refrigator and was looking for the perfect dishwasher - and that is only a KitchenAid KDS-18. We thought we had found it as we have been viewing craigslist for weeks. Here is the story...

I (Tim) called a number listed in the craigslist ad yesterday. The location of the machine was about an hour and a half from our home. The seller seemed to be very nice and told me I was the first person who called so it was mine. I wrote down the address and re-confirmed the price and told him I would have cash in hand and told him to call me if something changed. I told him I could not pick it up until today and he said that was fine. We set a time and I told him I would call before I left. It was a KDS-18, avacado - even though the color was wrong - I have a good body shop friend and he agreed to paint the panels.

I called the number on my way to pick up our new to us KitchenAid. No answer - went to voice mail! I began to think...this deal is going to go south! I arrived at the stated address and no one was home. Going south faster. I called the seller again - voice mail again and then waited for an hour! I knew right then...GONE SOUTH!

Finally, I thought well maybe he would reply to a text...so I sent him a text and 20 minutes later received one back that "his tenant had sold the machine yesterday afternoon and he did not know about it until this morning and he did not get my messages because his cell phone was dead"! Funny, he could text!!!!

I was so upset that I immediately called and it went voice mail - I drove home bummed out, called my painter friend and told him nothing to paint - it was a bust!

I was totally honest from the start and am from the school that a verbal agreement for a purchase of this kind is good enough. Never again!! I just can't figure out why others are so non-caring and are liars - yes liars. His tenant did not sell that machine, he sold it to someone who offered him more money. Instead of being honest and calling me saying I have been offered more, would you be willing to pay more, he sold it out from under me.

OK..enough of the vent - thank you for reading. Now a request...

We would like to ask any of you out there if you would help us obtain a KDS-18 for our home. If any of you have an extra machine that is in great shape that you would like to sell, we would be interested. One additional request...if you see or hear of any machines in the central Ohio area would you please drop us an email?

Thank you for your time.

Peace and respect,

Retromen624

CALLING ROLLERMATIC!!!

You have a neighbor or at least in the same state, who has well over 20 Kitchenaid DW's in his house. I am sure that he will gladly part with one for a member of this forum. I live too far from you to offer you mine, Besides, the one I have is in a KD20 series tank so it lacks the little Constant Rinse assembly on the top, but has the water manifold that has a slit in it instead to spray water over the tops of the cups and glasses, which if nothing else, is just as effective in my opinion and cannot get broken off by something in the rack. A fate many have experienced!

Also, my machine has the improved Hobart style wash arm instead of the 4 way HydroSweep. (I can convert it back easily) This arm really throws the water around!

Contact Rollermatic and see if he will part with one!

there may also be some other guys who have one or two of them who might want to aprt with theirs too. Have faith!

Thanks!

Thank You, stevet I appreciate the referral. I just realized I spelled refrigerator wrong!!! Sorry about that! I was typing so fast because of the very bad experience today. We are still bummed about it...but like you said, have faith and that I can do.

Peace and respect,

18 series machines show up from time to time.  You'll find one eventually.  I had to wait over a year for a 22 series to appear on CL, and then found 3 of them in the space of about as many weeks.  OK, they were In-Sink-Erator Classic Supremes and not KA machines, but they share the same mechanicals as found on a series 22 KA.

And welcome to AW.org retromen!  You'll find all the help you need with vintage appliances here.

Craigslist Search Engine

Welcome to the hood!! I've used this search engine for the last 3 months now and it really makes it easy. Found my KDS-18 using it. Very similar to the old Criaglook. It's called Searchtempest. Give it a whirl!!--Tom
