A 1958 WCI and DCI Frigidaire Pair. It would have to be at least a 2-set laundry room. OR the other set would be a WCI65 and WI65 set. Both in Turqoise. the 1965 Frifidaire set could be aztec copper too. The last "set" could be a TOL 1957 or 1958 Bendix Duomatic. Pink wouldn't even be allowed as a consideration or be allowed to come near the house. |

My first choice would be a '67 Lady Kenmore set in Shaded Slate Blue. Second would be a Whirlpool set in Edged Sapphire Blue (color of SupremeWhirlpool's washer he's been making changes to). |

I would have to say my dream set would be an avocado 1968 Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII pair with the faux wood front panels (ala RevvinKevin). The washer must also have the famous "Suds-Miser" that they touted for so many years. And the dryer needs to be electric. I love the idea of the multi-directional dryer door. Well, from an Aussie member's perspective, it has to be:
The 1973 Simpson 'Fabulous 89' Solid State Control fully programmed automatic! The name alone is to die for! They only came in white. I've already found my two other dream machines in Harvest Gold and Avocado Green...the Wilkins Servis 500 Series. Cheers Leon |

but if I did I would want a 1961 Lady Kenmore washer in coppertone. I would also like a matched set of 1971 Lady Kenmore washer and dryer in harvest gold. And I would love a 1965 Speed Queen washer like my sister had which I was fascinated with. I also want a big sunny backyard with a four line clothesline and neighbors who did not burn wood for heat and smoke up my clean laundry.

I once had a set and loved them. Patrick in Portland has a set and it brought back many memories. Still, no matter how far I stray I always come back to Maytag. |

I noticed that at the end of the ad text in parentheses it says (Available soon). My question is this, did they ever actually produce these, or were they prototypes that never made it into actual production? The reason I ask the question is because with all the members we have in almost every corner of the world, no one has ever found either the washer, dryer, or both. |

I was a young kid working at the big appliance store in San Jose when machines with this same console minus the ultra-cool eye-level styling were brand new and I never saw a model like this. Western Appliance was primarily a Frigidaire store and they always had everything that was made for any given model year, especially anything Custom Imperial. These machines (washer) look like the then-new variable speed models. These pre-micro-processor motors and controls were very complex. I remember most of them coming back for repair. This may have something to do with Figidaire changing their minds about producing this. One thing's for sure, they sure look beautiful.

SUDS 14: That Lady Kenmore washer & dryer set w/ the hide-away controls is probably the same set (Well, it LOOKS like it!) as the neighbors across the street had & the washer got replaced w/ a number of less-spectacular Whirlpool's while the dryer became a White-Westinghouse, followed by most-likely a GE...
As for MY dream set...--Well it seems I can't make up my mind, so I might have to have more than one house... I'll let you know as long as this thread continues... Keep posting your "dream machines"; I enjoy reading about 'em...! -- Dave |

I've found several so-called dream machines ... a Maytag 906 pair, GE portable, Westinghouse toploader, a couple Filter-Flos (one with mini-basket), a belt-drive Whirly & Kenmore, and a unimatic Frigidaire. I have several notable "modern" machines also.
I suppose the vintage kickers are any of a Philco Automagic, an ABC-mechanism Kelvinator, a keyboard Lady Kenmore, or a Norge/MWards/Catalina. |

Just for the sake of simplicity, ease of service, plenitude of available parts, a wealth of features, a familiar brand name, (not something too off-the-wall), reasonable energy (water efficiency, short of a front-loading mach.) usage & operating costs, a good-to-excellent (outstanding, w/ proper care?) repair/service record, decent performance, & most likely able to buy at a good price, while still having a reserve of cash for the rest of my appliances to be this good:
A Whirlpool LXA 6700 washer & whatever matching dryer with a side or drop-down door (doesn't matter to me, really) in probably Harvest Gold (really dig a WARM color, which never got as out-dated as brown or green) and I do believe it's a large, 18-LB cap. as I have a Consumer Reports or two testing it (giving it 3rd-place, below the Maytag & Frigidaire washers)... Would probably like my fridge to be an Amana Side X Side w/ the three doors & the ice and water disp. between the two freezer sections (even though it probably wouldn't deliver CRUSHED ice), a Kitchen Aid Imperial (or maybe Superba) dishwasher (built by Hobart, of course)--(though they didn't get the best reviews, citing the filters were hard to clean, dropped-flatware retrieval was hard, and performance was only Fair-to-Good) and whatever good gas range there'd be w/ a self-cleaning oven and five burners like what I've got now (don't know if you could get BOTH "back then")... Maybe a | N | O | R | G | E | 20 cu. ft. upright manual defrosting freezer, (if needed) too!... -- Dave |
