I'm trying to source some parts for a friend's KDS-19. The detergent dispenser isn't working properly. I can get the bi-metal strips easily enough, but that's where I get stuck. He says the spring that opens the dispenser needs to be replaced, but I cannot find a reference to a spring on my parts breakdowns at work. I can get the whole dispenser though. It looks like they'd need the whole dispenser plus the bi-metal strips. I can get the parts, but it's close to a hundred bucks.
Am I on the right track, or am I completely confused? Dave |

I think the only replaceable part Kitchenaid ever made for the dispenser cup was the bi-metals. Otherwise, a full replacement dispenser was the only answer for any other issues that came up. At least that's what an old appliance tech told me a few years back.
Getting the cotter pin off without destroying the dispenser is a pretty big task. I think I may have a spring for you from a unit I disassembled a while back. There's a very small flat o-ring that goes bad and causes leaks at the center shaft. I have been trying to find a suitable replacement, but no luck on my end yet so it's probably going to used for parts. See if you can get apart without destroying it. If you're successful, I'll dig my spare spring out and send it to you. |
