I have the chance to get a free Maytag LA-712, series 02 washer in Charlotte if anyone wants it. The original owner is replacing it because it hasn't been extracting like it once did. They have a DD Whirlpool that was left in the house from the original owner when they bought it 10 years ago, and we've been testing it and cleaning it up so it can be used.

If anyone wants the Maytag, please let me know by on-site e-mail or by a post on here (I don't check my registered e-mail every day but I'll try to glance through it). I would be happy to rescue the machine. Storage is tight so please try to get it in the next month or so. I know someone who is a great shipper along the east coast who may be able to transport the washer reliably and inexpensively.

I hope someone wants it! I am working now on getting a photo.

Anyone interested in this machine?

Were you ever able to acquire a picture,  Gordon?

Clean and re-grease the tracks on the sliding motor carriage with silicone grease and throw a (now) perfectly good working 712 on craigslist for $$$

Malcolm and Dan,

Never got a picture, probably because I've been trying to talk the owner out of dumping the machine so he's been having second thoughts. It has never been serviced since new, so I asked him why he would conclude it was beyond repair.

I have told him what Dan said, so we'll see what happens.

Thanks everyone, and thanks Dan.

Just belt glaze and stretch will make for a limp spin on a MT that needs no other service, had one do that in 1970. When you go to put the new one in, you'll find if the motor slide is grimy.
