Is this a belt-drive washer? If so, then wouldn't it be one of the first Kenmore washers to feature electronic controls?

The set is for sale in Minneapolis for $150, if anyone is interested.

Those are absolutely beautiful.

From everything I can determine from the picture, the washer is a 1978 model, which was the first electronic Kenmore. In electronic form, there was a '78, an '80, and an '81 as Lady Kenmores, and an '82 as a Limited Edition. The '82 was available into summer/fall 1986. There was a '79 90 series, but it was not a Lady.

The '78 was the only one with the 'square' box of cycle buttons and options. The 1980 model debuted the linear line of cycle options with red LED lights and 'beep' tones. The 1980 did not have a triple dispenser, however the '81 did. The '82 limited ed. got revised green LEDs.

These were neat machines, and expensive too. Sears must have enjoyed the income from them.

It certainly is a belt drive washer. What a beautiful set. I have the 1986 Direct drive version.

Whirlpool direct-drive mechanism introduced in the early 1980s.
