Pink Lady Kenmore 800

Jerry, I'd go look into them and see what kinda shape they are in.  I think there's someone in Arizona who has a Turqoise set of these and his kitchen appliances are pink.  Maybe he'd wanna trade if ya got these.

Looks like a 1963? Lady "Maytag" set.Growing up, we had the gas washer dryer combination with the same exact style pushbutton control panel on it.As soon as you turned the timer dial after selecting the cycle you wanted, it would light up and stay lit until the cycle ended. I had our tech rewire it so that not only the panel light would come on but the interior drum light too. These top loaders were great but their spin was a bit too slow for my taste as well as their tiny 12 pound capacity. However, their design, performance and dependability are nothing to sneeze at.Don't all of us only wish that washers and dryers were made that well today!!!! I'll bet the only things needed on the washer would be a new tub seal, new rubber hosing,a new wig-wag,new belt, belt adjustment and new intake hoses. I'd remove (carefully) the control panel glass and wash it thoroughly to remove the years of dust and dirt from it and scrub the entire body with Spray-9. The dryer, I'd remove the front and vacuum out the entire inside. Then replace the belts and do the same with it as with the washer.Once finished, take a photo and file it away in the album. They're asking way too much to want to really part with them. I'd say $500 would be a bit steep but, I'd be willing to pay that for the pair.

To quote:

"as well as their tiny 12 pound capacity" - Do you really think that was tiny? In 1963 is was about par for the course if not a little better than par.

"I'll bet the only things needed on the washer would be a new tub seal, new rubber hosing,a new wig-wag,new belt, belt adjustment and new intake hoses." - That's all?? A tub seal can be a decent amount of work in a vintage machine (see volvoguy's current thread). New internal hoses for this machine would largely have to be made to fit, as the originals are all NLA.

You need to be careful what you advocate about these older machines. A nice design in more ways than one, yes, but without an inspection, you can't ascertain a machine's overall condition based on this ad, and you should be careful when speculating. I would not suggest a nearly clean mechanical bill of health as you did, as your comment might cause some unknowing person out there to spend a great deal of money to get the sought-after Pink Ladies thinking they are an easy fix at worst, and wind up with a potential money pit or two. True that the machines might be mint perfect, but until someone in the know checks them out, we should remain mindful of getting hopes up.

As to all that the machine would need, you've left out some MAJOR potentials in the washer, including the most likely, which are bearings and shaft and spin tube seals. Unless the machine has had very limited use, or unless its bearings have already been replaced, there is a very good chance the original bearings are beginning to wear or worse. Once they start, the machine is not pleasant to use and will eventually become unuseable or very finicky at the least.

These are awesome looking machines. If they were inexpensive (that's a definition up to each person), I wouldn't be so concerned about their mechanical condition, because someone here can fix them. But at $1800, or even $1000, they'd better be new in box or nearly so unless the buyer knows what he/she wants and has the resources one way or another to get them into operating condition.

appnut: I have the turquoise set, and you are right those would look great matching my pink kitchen, and I would trade the turquoise set for them. depending on the working condition of that set. But 1800 is way way too much for that set. All I can say is, I want whatever they are smoking. LOL.

I would love to have them, but not for $1,800.00 LOL.  They are very pretty.  I saw a local post on CL for a Whirlpool washer that was clearly a newer model GE.

COOL PINK LKM PAIR

These are very cool machines but I will be the first too second what Gordon said about the potential mechanical condition. It does look like the washer has a suds saver and they look to be in good cosmetic shape. This washer and dryer could have been built from 1963-1965 and the 64 and later is a much better machine as they went to the HD transmission and 1/2 HP motor and the plastic water pump, nylon self cleaning lint filter and plastic check valve, all of these were great improvements over the original parts.

If you are the lucky person who winds up with these be careful what you use to clean the painted cabinets and the plastic lamp cover. Spray-9, Fantastic and Tile-x will cause permeant fading of the colored painted surfaces.

To me!!

Those are the absolute BEST Kenmores ever, my next door neighbor had the washer when I was a kid, ...12 pound " Tiny" ! that was large capacity then, a lot of machines were not but 8 or 9 pound, these were great, push the cycle button , turn the dial till it stopped and that was it, lighted tub, lighted panel, self cleaning filter, spin only button...nothing today offers any where near the cycles and options.

I just wonder how people either don't pay attention to the name on the front of the machine, or don't know how to read. Big difference between Lady Kenmore and Maytag lol. It makes me also wonder if they're actually selling them or trying to pull a scam, and just found a random picture off the internet to use.

Kind'a like how "Clorox" is Bleach--even it's a Generic Brand!

Or how "Windex" is Window Cleaner--even if it's a grocery store chain's Private Label!

Well, read the CONTROL PANEL (& maybe the product label) then you'll know the brand name!

As you all know, I have the exact matching dryer. Lord knows I'd love to have the matching washer but not at freaking $1800! *sigh* some day...

Well gosh,Gordon, I didn't realize my bet was intact! You need to stop judging other people here who aren't perfect like yourself.Get a frigging life and stop putting other members here down. It isn't cool like you think it may be.I wasn't saying there wouldn't be any other issues with these but, from my own experience in finding units like them, they were still in use because they were either in vacation homes or second homes folks had away from their main location.Once in a while, they were just great units made well enough to be used on either a daily or weekly basis and the original owners either died or sold their home and the buyers saw no use for older models wanting everything to be their own,not someone else's.As far as "tiny" goes, My Aunt Nat had a Kenmore belt drive with the same size tub as the one on CL and 7 kids to do wash for.It croaked after 4 years of non stop, daily laundry and she replaced it with a Signature which lasted 12 years and did almost 3 times the amount of wash as the Kenmore with only 2 repairs as opposed to the 7 she had on the Kenmore. This gave her a bit more time to do other things like iron and get ready for either of the two jobs she worked since my uncle left her with all 7 kids. Most of the repairs were pump and belt related.I know that not all Kenmores have bad service records but some, like other brands were not as reliable as others. Our Combo from '63,lasted my family almost 20 years with only 3 major repairs. The Reese's,neighbors of ours who also had a huge family (8 kids),had first gotten a Lady kenmore gas combo in '58 or '59 and replaced it in '66 with another but that one was either a "lemon" or had gotten so many changes made over the years that it just wasn't as reliable as the original ones were.

Gordon i see your point, it's  the luck of the draw. Now i invested $50. in std cap maytag over a year ago, it washes about 1/2 what my newer DC  Loadsensor washes.  But at  $50.  I could "financially take" the luck of the draw. It was an estate sale Maytag the Granddaughter told me her Grandparents bought it new and it never had required a repair. It works perfectly I love it for our feline "Girls" blankets and bathroom rugs or any of that time wasting soaking.  $1800. is just A LOT of money. alr2903
