Thinking about Darren and the Whirlpool he got off of me, where we mentioned of a single speed machine and adding a vari-flex agitator for the flexablility of gentle action wash.......my mind, such as it is, has done a similar switch-out, I have a Hotpoint RimFlo, single speed, 2 cycle machine, standard capacity, originally equipted with a roto-swirl........

NOW......take a 2 part agitator from another GE, although large capacity, the tranny post was of the smaller capacity.......

Installed in the machine, it does clear the lid when closed, and SUPRISE!....I have a gentle HAND-WASH action if needed from the single speed

AND......Full size wash action from the slide over adaption, this one seems to move the clothes with more force than the original.....

What do you think?

Very interesting and simple solution to the single speed issue.  Martin, your resourcefulness never ceases to amaze me!

Great idea! I'd love to see a video comparison of the two different agitators at work. I'll bet that ramped monster really moves the clothes around!

Always nice to see two agitators together, displaying and working proudly.

Your modifications are like what Norge did with their Ripplet agitator which replaced the regular one for washing blankets in a one speed machine and the Blackstone red agitator skirt which essentially fit down over the agitator and reduced the size of the fins to give gentle agitation in their one speed machine. Kenmore offered the Variaflex (sp?) agitator with adjustable fins at the base of the agitator to control the violence of the agitation coupled with a selection of agitation and spin speeds.
