This has something called "Automatic Rinse" don't know what thats about, but there is a little spout on the spinner side for spray rinsing.
I'l missing the fill hose, with persumably the end that fits the auto rinse thingy..
More pics once my camera charges some...
Oh yes, I tested it, it seems to work as it should!

I had one

I had one many years ago. Found it a trash pile and brought it home (living with parents at the time). I fixed it for $1.25 - just needed a belt. Sold it for $10 to the orkin man long time ago.. I would love to have one again.

Hurray for Hoover!

Jeff:

That's a great-looking Twinnie! It seems to be in minty condition! Is that Harvest Gold as deep as it looks in the pic?

It looks mint! Congrats on your new washer, you'll have lots of fun with it.

The automatic rinse feature allows you to place the clothes from the wash-tub into the spinner basket, after spinning out the wash water, you turn on the water at the faucet, set control to automatic rinse and let the machine take over. It will fill to a specified level, spin out the water and will continue this operation until you turn off the water and set to spin. Depending on the load in the spinner, it may take quite a few rinse 'cycles' before the detergent residue is removed. A neighbor of ours washed for a family of five with a Hoover just like this and used to wash for two cycles of the wash timer (approx. 10 minutes) and would let the auto-rinse run the whole time or until the water was clear coming from the drain hose during the spin periods. Spin the load for 3-4 min. after rinsing is done and switch the load and start all over.

I suspect this won't be a "daily driver" but it is a lot of fun to play with and certainly a great example of Hoover history. Good luck and have fun!

Ok guys...

Fred: How about if I bring it to you? You have a laundry tub in the basement. see below for why...
Greg: To use this thing today, I had to push it out the back door and test it on the deck...I ran the drain hose to the sump pump thats in the stairwell back there.
I did a 1/2 load of laundry in it, some socks, a couple of t shirts, and some unmentionables. I filled it with the garden hose. My roomie Kevin came out back and watched it work and me work... he thought it was neat, and loved the spinner...
I don't have a laundry sink(yet) but there may yet be one in the downstairs bathroom.
This will not be a daily driver....
The sump pump was shooting suds and mountain spring tide flavored water off the back of the deck...
Toggle: You're welcome anytime, you don't need a washer as an excuse to ring my doorbell.

Bring it on over!

Jeff - We can run it side by side with the Maytag wringer and see which is more work (I think the wringer will win in that department!) Little Fred can come down and we can make a day of it.

Well I kinda felt like....

Granny Clampett doing laundry on the back porch last night, especially since with the warm weather there were people going back and forth to the park via the sidewalk beyond my deck, and the sound of the spinner was catching their attention as they walked by.

The nice part is this thing will fit in my trunk, so I'll be happy to bring it over. It was my hope to have it for the mini meet last month, but instead we will have it for the next one.

Hoover Splashmatic!!!

chestermikeuk's profile picture
Hi Jeff

Welcome to the Hoover SplashaRama club, your machine looks like the similar model here from around 1976, BUT we never did colour...pah..

These machines do a fab wash and ALWAYS produce a Hoover "SPLAT"...just as the clothes are gathering speed and perhaps bundling together you will see the pulsator move them all in a heap and the water surges from one side of the tub to the other producing the "SPLAT" which normally happens in front of the machine just where the two tubs meet...LOL

This machine benefits from the auto rinse which will carry on rinsing until the cows come home or you swith off the water and spin selector...

It also benefits from the spinner emptying the washtub...superfast style..

looking forward to hearing about it...

Enjoy...Mike

splashmatic....

I also have to remember to wait and turn on the agitator until the water has covered it by a couple of inches...
Otherwise its like running the blender without the top on!

Is it the Hoover or the Maytag TT that's so loud?

Jeff ... that looks like a fun machine!! Thanks for sharing photos.

I bet if my Maytag Porta-washer had the spin spray rinse feature, it would cut down on suds locking!

Do the Hoover's have a suds lock problem?

Veg ... the Maytag Porta-washer is very quiet when washing. It's a little noisy during ramp-up of spin, but not too bad.

Post# 87226 , Reply# 22   10/5/2005 at 16:51 (6,770 days old) by hoover1060 ()
Maytag porta wash..

Doesen't the Maytag have two agitators in it?
Hoover just has one, and I never use too much detergent.

The Hoover is quiet when washing, just a normal hum sound...
The spinner is powered by a universal motor(a Constellation motor to be exact) so its somewhat noisier.

Really? A Connie motor? How fun, I'd not heard that tidbit before!

The Maytag does have two impellers, about the same volume level as the Hoover when washing but the spinner is where the difference is. The Maytag is much quieter while spinning, a little vibration noise of course, but overall much quieter. I'll bring mine out when I come to Chicago in November and we'll compare them side-by-side, just like Consumer Reports!

Post# 87249 , Reply# 24   10/5/2005 at 18:18 (6,770 days old) by westytoploader ()

WOW...another great acquisition, complete with woodgrain top no less!

I played with a machine like this at the Convention on Sunday, though we didn't hook it up to the sink for the Auto-Rinse feature. It was very fun (and I almost took it home...;-))...the wash motor was near-silent like the Maytag and all you could hear was the water rushing around. When loaded properly, the clothes should have a constant rolling motion without slowing. The spinner had a neat, blender-like sound to it (compared to the Maytag which sounds like a swimming pool pump), and I can't believe that's a Connie motor powering it! That water really whizzed away FAST too! From previous posts, many of us believe that the "dream impeller twinnie" would combine the wash side of the Maytag with the Hoover spinner, although I don't think the tangling was too bad on the Hoover. Then again, I don't think the Unimatic (with the 2-ring) tangles horribly either...so consider the source...LOL!

Enjoy your machine!

yes thats a Connie motor turning the twinnie spinner, SANS fans of course, but if you listen to it close you can kinda hear the Connie sound. The Hoover spinner gets more water out than the spin on my Amana washer(which I think does a good job too)
Hoover used parts and stuff all across their lines, they maximized what they could.
I've only seen the Maytag machines on ebay, would love to see one in person, and yes it would be fun to run them side by side.

Jeff, here is the coupler end of the Hoover Deluxe fill-hose. Not sure about the part number, I couldn't find any markings on the plastic at all but it gives you an idea of what to look for.

Post# 87297 , Reply# 27   10/5/2005 at 22:42 (6,770 days old) by westytoploader ()

How exactly does the coupler end work? Is there a solenoid valve that controls the auto-rinsing...if that's true then wouldn't there be some leaking with all that faucet pressure at the machine end?

Inquiring minds want to know...;-)

Post# 87302 , Reply# 28   10/5/2005 at 23:03 (6,770 days old) by hoover1060 ()
Thanks for the pic Greg!

Austin,
As far as I can tell there is no solenoid to turn the water on and off with the auto rinse, rather the water runs continuously into the spinner, while it spins for a few minutes, then stops, fills and spins again... I would imagine it would cycle on and off with the water running as long as you let it go...

Great machine Jeff! I knew you had won this but did not realize you were just now getting it. Mine is on the way in the moving truck. I have a pump and some other parts for it now, when RogerA608S comes visiting we'll get it up and running! It will be nice to have something to play with in my apartment and for small loads.

By the way, we have one Speed Queen and one GE Filter Flo coinop washers, and 2 Speed Queen dryers here. All seem to work great.

Does the spinner automatically stop during the rinse/spin and then starts again?

Thanks Glenn for doing the video

This was taken when Jon Jetcone was over for his trip...John from Birmingham had ringed the spinner so we could watch the auto rinse in action....

It starts just as the spin motor engages and pumps the water out...see that splashdrama in the deep laundry sink...if you ever try this in a normal nice to look at sink...dont...your` wet very fast and you have to jump to hold on to the pipe...LOL....Now how do we know that!!!!

Right Click, Download and enjoy

Check out the link below for a UK site that sells Hoover TT spares. You'll have to find the UK equalivent to your machine, but last time I checked they did have spare hoses.

Your machine looks almost MIB, hope you have lots of fun with your new baby!

You're welcome, glad to be of assistance.

Have found in the past best to just get up early and telephone UK vendors directly, rather than emailing.

If this site does not pan out, have another resource or two in my books, just let me know.

Oh yes, if ordering from the UK, might as well order other parts for your machine as well. Things such as extra spin mats, belts and the like. Hoover UK no longer sells/makes TTs so parts will soon die out as in the US. Though it may be awhile, better to stock up now so to have spares about when needed. Personally recommended finding an extra pump to have on hand "just in case".

Best of luck

Launderess
