Hi Si,

Glad you are enjoying your Hoovermatic De Luxe, I finally got mines fully restored this week but I need a little advice on tensioning the belt.

Hotpoint Empresses are lovely machines and there were two on sale on eBay recently but I don't think they sold.

The seller has a YouTube profile though so you could try contacting him there?

James.

Hi James, Yes the Hoovermatic is great I've got it on in the background at the moment.
I messaged the seller on ebay about the Empress when it was for sale and they said they had already been sold were just leaving it on ebay in case they didn't turn up to collect. So I asked them to message me if they didn't. Never heard again so I'm guessing they were picked up.
Btw what do u need to know about the Belt tension?

I'm sure one will turn up...

They are a common reminder of pre twin tub washdays and they were so well built, many held onto them as a backup when they got their twin tubs in the 60's and 70's. I hope I can find the smaller Countess over here but of course they weren't Hotpoint until 1970 being sold as Gala instead.

My belt is slightly slipping upon turning the spinner on and it isn't reaching max speed when emptying tub (the buzz noise indicates max speed). Everytime I try positioning the motor or pedstal mount the drum goes off center or the belt is too tight slowing the motor down.

James.

Have you tried replacing the belt on it? or just tightening the old one?
Yea the Empress is an impressive looking machine. only lately started to resurrect my interest in these machines

MMMMMM not sure. Can have a look at mine as soon as I've finished my wash.
4 Loads done. put some shirts in the Hotpoint front loader I've got WF165p new type and they are still washing when I've almost finished lol
What machines do u have then is it only the hoover?

I have 3 machines so far...

The 1970 Hoover Single Tub and 1975 Hotpoint Spinner acting as a Twosome.
My goal is to find a Spinarinse and a Countess for them.

And the 3314L Twin Tub. It was a mess when I got it, had to respray the cabinet etc. Just search 3314L and see for yourself.

I am getting word of a twinny tonight and hopefully its hotpoint and not too bad.
I have amateur skills though to turn rusty old wrecks into beautiful machines using what I already have. There is a spare single tub motor inside my 3314L LOL! They are the exact same but just have different bolts for mounting and a seperate pulley and fan. Overall I spent about £80 on that 3314L and the change was amazing!

Even if things look terribly rusty it is surface rust most of the time so my 3314L wasnt structurally weak. A few spray cans of cheap gloss white and some amateur skils and what have you got a decent looking example. Apply lots of wax and it will be protected and shiny.

Sorry for waffling!

James.

Hey Nice pic. Wow
That hoovermatic twin tub looks NICE! id love one like that eventually and of course the Hotpoint Empress. I was brought up with Hotpoint Twintubs so believe it or not thats not high on my list as we had 2 when i was a kid to my teens then I had one in my teens too.

Thanks

It took alot of work to get it like that but I'm really happy with it now and it was my dream Hoovermatic. I really want a Supermatic now to compare it with and then it's duplicates from there on LOL! I have space for 5 twin tubs and 3 automatics and dryers on top. I just need a worktop for the 3314L and that will be complete. Of course the belt needs done first.

Worktops are like the icing on the cake to me. Hard to find here though I might even have to make my own for that lil spinner.

James.

Stacking...

If you had a worktop for the T5054 or a board of wood you could stack your next machine on it. Though if it's Hotpoint the Hotpoint should go on the bottom and the Hoover on top as Hotpoints are heavier built.

James.

Lol. I don't think it would go down to well stacking washing machines on top of one another in my Kitchen lol.
The other half would go spare. At least with 1 i can put a sheet over it and make it look like part of the furniture. lol

Idea...

You could put two together side by side and set some wood or granite on top of it and call it your brand new island for the kitchen LOL!
