Hi guys you may remember my 1965 bendix lt washer timer motor had failed well I had no hope of finding a replacement but after some searching I found a chap who had a good second hand one. I ordered it it came I swapped over the motors and it now ticks and whirs away so the bendix washes again !

So I got to thinking what else might he have I need so here is what I've ordered

Can you guess what they are and to what machine they fit

Clue this is a uk washer plus it's old !

Richard ;)

Oops I don't think I can up load pics from iPhone I'll fire up laptop keep posted !

Hi Ricky.

Really, really, REALLY good news about the LT. It would have been an absolute tragedy had you had to have it as an ornament.
Really pleased that it sounds like you have sorted it AND found a stash/supply of vintage spare parts.

Without the pics, but thinking what machines you own, heres hoping your spare parts are for a ***m****.
Be superb if you have found a spares supply for one of those.

Heres hoping!
Paul

Really is a great find, Ricky!

Just shows that the bits and pieces are still out there, albeit hidden away in nooks and crannies and forgotten cupboards.
Now that the LT is seemingly back on form, are you going to start tinkering with your 3224?

Well done !

Firstly. Sorry Paul I called you mark no idea why I'm still a bit confused who is who with names and tag names ,

Yes yes it's a brand new keymatic door boot , well done hotpoint 95622 , I was amazed when he sent a list of spares he still has , I got the has only one boot but it is as new , I bought the brake clutch thingy as mine slipEs and squeals when trying to spin so this may help. He has pump parts and some hoses from inlet valves ,sadly no sump hoses. ( I don't need one but i known there rare too ) .I'll have a bit play after my hols .

I've asked him for a colston dishwasher door seal and kenwood dish master Bakelite impeller, I'm going to ask him if it's ok to post his his details on here, as im sure if he has these oldies he will have things for washers from 70s 80s which are popular here too .

Cheers Richard.

Hi Ricky

If your Keymatic is slipping and squealing on spin I'd be looking at the belt first off - the spin belt is the round section belt that turns the corner. The original belt is like rubberized rope, it works better than the modern replacements that are some sort of plastic. The modern ones are a bit stretchy, I think they can stretch enough to let the motor pulley slip. The modern belts are often red, they were sold here as "redthane" belts.

The way to check the clutch is to disconnect the belts (both of them) so you have the two pulleys free. Now rotate one of the pulleys clockwise, then anti-clockwise. Now do the same with the other pulley.
You should find that each pulley drives the drum one way, and free-wheels (doesn't drive the drum) the other way. Both pulleys should drive the drum the same way.

If the clutches work properly but are a bit noisy when freewheeling, you could use a tiny bit of machine oil to lube the clutches. Each pulley is the outer of each clutch, so to lube them just add the oil (or motorbike chain spray grease) to the inner edge of the pulley, where it slides around the brass centre. DON'T pull the clutches apart. There are irreplaceable tiny springs and rollers inside. The clutches are simple enough but the bits are tiny and the springs cause it to fly apart when dismantled.

Another cause of slipping and squealing on spin is bad drum bearings - and Keymatic bearings are weird. They are thinner than standard bearings, I couldn't find them anywhere. (I usually get bearings from bearing suppliers, not spare parts shops - cheaper and often better quality.)
Also the bearing mount I dismantled had odd brass shims and spacers in it, I couldn't figure it out. Too long ago for me to remember with any clarity, but I do remember thinking they are to be avoided.

Another source of noise on spin is the idlers for the spin belt - the small pulleys where the belt turns the corner. They get worn and rattly, can come good woth some grease on the centre bushes. The old cast iron idlers are indestructible, the later plastic ones wear out.

Chris

David the spares man

Here is the contact details for the spares man I was talking about he said it's fine to contact him, email is best as it may take him a while to track down the bits you want. It's best if you have the model and serial numbers and part number if you have one. Good luck with your jobs !

Hey Richard, that's fantastic that you've sourced a timer for the Bendix, and she's sprung back to life! Are you going to have a poke at the broken timer to see if it's repairable?

And how brilliant to find a boot for the Keymatic, Have you fitted and tried it yet, or is that a silly question?

Well done for finding the chap, wonder what bits for other appliances he might have? Exciting!

No not yet

Hi simon I'm on holiday so have no had chance to play with the keymatic parts but will get around to it soon, the bendix timer motor was faulty but now at least I have a spare timer and could get the motor looked at .

The advantage is David knows about all the machines I asked him about, I even asked him about the dish master impeller and colston Door seal , he knew about them and even used to stock the impellers but alas doesn't have any
