Robert spotted this laying in a truck on its way to the dump- A 28. Now #28 has a new pristine 28 in service!
Fred had it apart in 20 minutes and we washed all the components and let them dry for a whole day ( i couldn't wait two!) , then he reassembled it in another 20 minutes! And she has a new bulb, new belts too! This post was last edited 07/31/2011 at 13:39 |

First of all Jon thanks for a great time, Smitty and I hated to go back to work today.
The Easy is the one that was on Craigs List in RI last week. Jon and others went and picked it up Thursday morning as others slept in. The Easy is a Beam design so it is similar in its mechanical workings to early Hotpoint and Speed Queen washers. yet nothing is actually interchangeable. The washer was is excellent condition overall and had sat a long unused. Between Jon, Robert and I we soon freed up a stuck water pump and had the machine working and found the reason it was probably taken out of use. As the washer filled water was leaking from the wash tub to the outer tub and being pumped down he drain. The sediment ejector tube had broken off the at the base of the wash tub. That I temporally sealed with silicone stretch tape and the machine was off and running. The only other snag was a squeakily agitator shaft bearing that we all decided needed oil so the machine was layed on the front and a small 1/2" clip ring was removed to release the A shaft. When Robert was trying to reinstall the clip it went flying about 15' and landed some where in the grass in the back yard. It was an unusual site to see 5 men on thier hands and nees looking for this small clip. Finally Jon and Robert headed to the hardware store looking for a replacement clip. meanwhile my brother Jeff who had arrived found the clip in a flower bed 20' from the washer and he and I successfully reassembled the washer and the squeak was gone.
I had also seen the Easy listed on CL about two weeks ago and since I knew that I was going to be traveling in that area I considered going and getting it. However I was already scheduled to pick up something much more fun and rare on LI NY that I have been on the lookout for, for than more than 30 years.
As I arrived in Cape Cod late on Wednesday night Smitty and I had an almost never used 1962 Westinghouse built in Microwave oven [ built by Tappan ]. I will take pictures and do a separate thread on it in the near future, but to me at least it is cool beyond belief. |

to learn that the Easy had a live fill with the motor and pump on, just like the Blackstone. Look at how short the Fine Fabrics cycle is---and a soak to boot! Three cycles on that old pretty girl. Wondering if the agitator is an Easy original or a Beam, etc, imitation. The cap looks like the one we've seen recently from overseas Easies.
What a riot if we had a pic of 5 guys on their knees scouring the grass for washer parts. Too funny!
What a nice thread for a Monday morning, but I don't like seeing handsome Artie all tied up like that (kidding), although he doesn't seem to mind and the ropes are loose. Have you see the Comfy Control harness, John? It's nylon mesh, and works great. I bought one for Athena, and the first time we went for a walk with it, she looked up at me, surprised seeming to ask, "Why is this not pulling on my neck?" |

Looks like a great time! It is such a small world, I noticed the street sign in the background and said hey, that is right up the street. We have our boat in Oyster Pond! We have a little cottage off Ridgevale. |

That's awesome. What would passersby think? A new religion maybe. Too funny.
Jon, I understand, a dog's seat belt. Amazing. But earlier today, in reflection during my bike ride, I thought your harness may have been the homemade precursor of the Comfy. The theory is that a neck leash triggers a pull reflex in the dog, whereas a chest harness does not. Athena is a 40 pound American Bull-Pit mix, strong as an ox, and she hasn't wrecked it--YET.
I would be happy to send you one for Arty to test; in fact I was going to call John and ask for your address to surprise you with it. I'll do anything to get me closer to being allowed to borrow, beg, steal, trade the glass-fronted lighted Easy just for a winter some time in the future. |

This may seem a silly question, but what does the Easy sound like when it's running? Being a Beam design, does it sound similar to Eddy's '53 Hotpoint and '57 Speed Queen? Is it smooth and quiet like Robert's '63 Easy? |

All these AW People on the Cape !!!
And everyone drove right past Barnstable and didn't stop to say Hi. Guess I'll go eat some worms :( Fine, just Fine. LOL Hope you all had a good time. If you're still here, enjoy a ride down 6A through the Villages of the Northside of the Cape. I think it's one of the most Beautiful Roads in the world. |

That electronic oven is probably a model OLA22. It would very likely be the same as the TAPPAN R-4 that i've got. The picture of the guts of the unit are the same as the TAPPAN.
Whoever owns that unit should shoot me a message. The TAPPAN I have came with tech notes and other fun stuff. You may find it interesting. I have the coolant mix and other data (antifreeze and distilled water). I found the Westinghouse Electronic in a circa approximately 1960 catalog. Beware though, the power supplies in any microwave (let alone this monster) are brutal. These puppies are not for the novice to repair. I've been involved with microwave ovens for decades and even this baby frightens me. Please keep in contact. I'd love to trade notes as not many of these ovens are likely to be around anymore. We may be the last ones on this deserted island of early electronic cookery. ... Did you try any recipes in the card file? LOL |

it is a different mechanism for sure. Even Robert and Greg were gobsmacked with it. The Easy weighs the tub with clothes and water and there are two settings half full and full. A solenoid sets the distance a weight switch travels under the tub. As the tub fills the whole unit sinks and triggers the switch to wash! When you change water levels you can hear the solenoid engage and disengage!

Thanks for sharing the photos of your good time. |

Hi jon & gang, Looks like a grand time was had by all!!! the shots of all on the grass searching for those illusive springy parts is am familiar with - not good for the stress levels..that Spiralator in the easy looks huge compared to the twinny, is it much bigger and metal??
Hope you are well rested, Mike |

Mike good question on the spiralators, I will research that post haste! I can tell you the Automatic has a huge central shaft unlike the twinnie, when I go down this weekend we'll do a comparison between the two if Robert didn't snap up the spiralator and take it with him back to Minnie for his twinnie!
I gotta say it really moves the laundry in that all white porcelain tub WOW! |
