At the same time in France was the infamous Evian Conference where the world's nations decided no one had room for Jewish refugees from Hilter's Germany.

This is also the anniversary of Reagan's crushing the PATCO strike. The costs to rebuild the system, train new controllers and the losses due to the curtailment of airline flights to match the reduced controller staffing were far more for the government than the changes in duty hours the controllers wanted, but it established that Reagan had big balls and impressed the Soviet Union that he was a tough cookie.

There was a Maytag strike in the 70s. The Maytag dealership where John worked had to take on WP products to have something to sell.

All sorts of interesting things in this magazine, I found this issue on another site concerning the young man who jumped off a building, after threating for 14 hours. A movie was made in 1950 that covered this.

Did anyone notice the ad for beer in cans? 1936 was the year beer in cans was introduced so this was a relatively new product; no more need to take the beer bucket to the corner saloon for a fill up.

How many times did I hear the remark,"champagne taste on a beer bucket pocket."
