Hi
I haven't posted in the Imperial forum before, though I would like to ask if anyone could help.

The POD for the 3rd of August 2011 is an Inglis Royal top loading washing machine.
I wondered if anyway could tell me how old the two washers pictured are?

I must say they look excellent.

Ok thanks:)

I think they are from the mid-to-late seventies.

I seem to remember writing to Inglis for that brochure about the 1975-76 time period.

I was 12 :-)

I got all of the mailing address for the washer companies out of consumer reports and would send away for brochures, I remember having to give my mother 8 cents for each stamp I used from my piggy bank.

Forgive me for being dense, but are/were the Inglis machines Whirlpool sourced?  Those in the POD bear a resemblance to the ones our neighbor had during that time, but her's were Whirlpools.

Yes they are Whirlpool. I remember when I was a kid, my mother's 1974 Inglis dryer had the Whirlpool crest on it's lint filter handle. (back in 1974, they were still hidden behind a metal door)

I just noticed on the POD the french writing on the All detergent box. I'm guessing that these were also different in the US.

That's a beautiful set.  However, Inglis must not have been available in the Greenville area as I had never heard of Inglis washers and dryers until I started following this forum.  Roper appliances, which were a lower end Whirlpool product, have been available in our area as long as I can remember.  Was Inglis a lower or higher end Whirlpool product?

It was available in Canada only. I think it was equivalent to Whirlpool. Two of my aunts had older Royal washers from the early seventies with tub lights, fluorescent panels and lighted dials. I think they were also 3 speed washers. The Royal dryers had a volume control located in the lint filter door for the end of cycle buzzer and a feature which would let the dryer tumble every few minutes after the cycle was completed if you didn't open the door to get the clothes out.

One of my aunts also had an Inglis Royal seventeen refrigerator with an ice maker and an Inglis Royal 100 dishwasher with a rapid advance timer and light indicators for the cycles.

Now, both brands are available here and Inglis is a bit less expensive than Whirlpool and Kitchen Aid (but not as cheap as Roper). (the olders Whirlpool clothes washers and dryers I have seen here are from the eighties).

Thanks

Hi

Just want to say thanks to everyone for giving me lots of information on Inglis washers.

As I say, when I looked at the POD, I was amazed such washer were invented, and wondered how old they are.
They are brilliant for the 70's! I am sure they would sell today(if they were White!)

So Thanks again!
