My dream toy. I saw it when it was first listed. Between the opening bid and the shipping, it's a little more than I want to spend.

I had one of these bad boys and the agitator really goes up and down as well as a fast "Rapidry" spin! It does about 5 pounds of filthy dirty Barbie Doll clothes.

That is HELLA COOL!!!! If I had $50 I'd get it! I must say though, I'm surprised to see vanes on the skirt of the agitator.

The one in the Milton-Bradley toy store in our shopping center in the early 60s did not have vanes on the agitator skirt; it was more like a real Frigidiare. It was an expensive toy.

Something has always amazed me about these Wolverine toys and that is the very sharp corners on them. If a child fell against one, it could sustain serious cuts. I would say it is a better toy for adults.

As you can see from my profile picture I have one that was just taken out of the box about five years ago and built, boxed stamped June 1961.

The only thing I noticed about this one on ebay is the back of the control is open and the entire back of these were one piece of tin of which closed in the back, so someone may have built this one wrong and folded it down inside the back of the machine?

I always wondered if this could be motorized? It would make it a lot easier to get the racing stripes off GI Joe's briefs!

sharp edges

The toys we Boomers grew up with had sharp edges, lead paint and parts that could cut off body parts. Yet we all seemed to survive. Not like today when everything is made of soft plastic and with rounded corners.

I lusted after this toy when I was about 8, but it was too expensive. The first one I saw as an adult was at an antiques store in Ohio in 2003...priced at $125.00.

I saw the entire FRIGIDAIRE/Wolverine kitchen at our local department store, Hochschild Kohn in November of 1962. My Mom took me there to see Santa Clause and I wound up having a serious temper tantrum because she was more interested in getting my photo taken with Santa then she was in letting me play with my favorite toys!!! I begged,I pleaded with her to buy me that kitchen but,I never saw it again until I found it at a local antique shop in Baltimore (Cockeysville) and got the washer only for $25.It worked great and had the lid but it was cracked in half so I removed it.The display was awesome and had the Frigidaire logo all over it.All pink and black. When I got real sick with my thyroid storms, I lost everything including that.
Hochschilds was also a FRIGIDAIRE dealer at that time when all the department stores sold everything.Hechts (The Hecht Company owned by The May company at that time)was one of three local competitors (Hutzlers and Stewarts being the other 2)had their own name brand of appliances called Duracrest that were made by Kelvinator and Leonard. Those are a bit hard to come by and the only store I ever saw Leonard on display was a company named E.J.Korvette.That was also the first place I ever saw a Carocell dishwasher. They had them on a display where they were stacked like a pyramid and had a sales ticket saying $45.

I had a Wolverine tumbler. Don't remember sharp edges. Do remember it rusted out. Had several Ideal washers/DWs and they were shaped rounded like real appliances of the era.

Congrats Mike

To show no rust at all this thing must be like new. All my metal toy washers rusted prodigiously in a short time. Great find.

See also the alternate items that come up now that the auction has ended, there's a Wolverine stove and the corners are rounded like a real one.

Since it all works from one crank the cycle knob must be some kind of gear shift. I suspect lightly greasing the friction points will make it perfect. I also advise turning the crank GENTLY. Often as not in these, the agitation is simply a bent shaft within a rather flimsy U-channel and will not withstand a great deal of torque. I broke my Wolverine when I was too young to understand that. When you're 6yo, faster is better right?

Seems like each year 3-ring agitator would change colors like mine (June 1961)

Now I see why the back on the control panel is open on this one, someone put the back on upside down. Open space is to be at the bottom of the machine, back of control panel not to be exposed.

Mike: Congrats...that toy is way cool. I too would love to see the mechanism and how it works. Is it a crank operation? How fast do you need to go to get Rapi-dry spin? Could be a good cardio workout!
