So, what do you think is the reason that Maytag's TL HE machines have 2 different drive systems? The Bravos are Direct Drive (Fisher-Paykal system, I think) and the Bravos X are belt drive. The Bravos X seem to be the lower to middle level machines, with the Bravos the mid to higher level (heater on the top of line 850 only). Why would I want one over the other, and why are they doing this to me?

I also have this curiosity. I personally do not like the belt drive model.
These new DD models of Whirlpool / Maytag has recirculation?

The Belt drive is whirlpool's own wash system. They have to pay or so I am told for the FP system so the washers are priced higher. With the only top loaders now are HE type whirlpool made it own drive system to give lower priced washer that meets HE standard. This is what I was told at Kahians appliance when we got that ge washer.

BTW The Belt drives are "Loud"
