Well it's been about a year since my Miele W1070 required attention so wouldn't you know......

Last weekend whilst doing the laundry *thought* one heard an odd noise as the machine filled for the rinses, but as music was playing in the background (Etta James and Betty Wright), didn't really give it much notice. Cycles were completed and laundry came out as usual, so ...

Yesterday when doing more laundry heard the same sounds again and peaked inside the detergent dispenser where the water enters the machine and noticed only a slow trickle. This only occurs during the first four rinses and part of the fifth. Long story short after doing a quick Internet search it appears a new valve will be in order. Rang Miele this morning and the part is $140, but thankfully in stock. Soonest date Miele can send someone is next week, so will either have to play around with the timer (thank goodness for mechanical controls), moving it to the final rinse several times to get the job done, or simply use the Whirlpool or Hoover TT.

Considering Miele's highway robbery call out costs am thinking of having some other issues taken care of at once. New timer motor (sticks at the "cyclic rinsing" portion of the PP cycle, push buttons (current On/Off button sticks), and maybe the hot water valve along with all filters, hoses etc that make-up the intake assemblies.

Or,it could be time to start looking for another Miele (modern) as a daily driver and put the W1070 on "baby" status.

I'd mayhaps give consideration to machines other than Miehle... Consumer Reports gives them faily low marks for reliability vis-a-vis more some "mundane" 'Merican brands.

CR Is Rating The Newer

Ghastly "Energy Star" qualified models. My vintage unit is no such animal. *LOL*

Uses at least five or six gallons per cottons wash and perhaps near eleven for each of the five (count em *5*) rinses.

Mind you the newer washers spin between each of the three rinses whilst mine only offers one short spin after the third rinse and a full after the fourth, then a series of gradual then final spins.

Interestingly, both the Australian and British consumer magazines (Choice and Which? respectively) rate Miele, based on consumer feedback, as THE most reliable brand overall that you can buy when it comes to washers, dryers and vacuums - period.

Maytag is rated the most unreliable brand when it comes to washing machines here with 37% requiring work (Miele 9%) in the previous 12 months....

That's funny.  I just replaces the cold valve in my 1926 for the same "trickle fill during the rinses/lazy cold water valve".

I'd Do The Repair Myself

But then if something ruins my poor machine, Miele won't help. Read somewhere in the Interent about a person who did a valve repair DIY and then the washer wouldn't power on....

To get my money's worth out of the call out will probably have the drain hoses swapped (have rigged up a hose and extension), and the other repairs looked into as listed above. If there is a hot water valve may have it swapped as well. Might as well put the guy to work while he's here.

It was 1 valve-to-cabinet screw, 2 wire connections (each only goes on one way) and 2 hoses with those squeezy clamp things that for some reason are hard to work with unless you have the special pliers with the holes (and even then they are a PITA)...
