I received this email the other day:

I understand you are based in Minneapolis and might be interested in buying local, older, automatic washing machines.  We are renovating an old home in Northeast Minneapolis, which contains an older Norgay Automatic Washing Machine, Luxury Line.  Please contact us if you are interested in seeing photos, etc.

I assumed Norgay meant Norge, lol.  So I went over there tonight, it sure was a Norge, same 1956 model as the one I have, except for some odd differences...

Its not in great shape, but its not bad either.  The bottom toe panel is white, on my machine its chrome, go figure.

What's really odd is the agitator is different between the two machines.  I don't know what's up with that.  The solid white tub seems to be in better shape than in mine, so I might just have to take the best parts of both machine to make a really good Norge.

Isn't that the Hamilton agitator?  Looks like the fins are not as big on the base as the angel wing Norge 'tator.  Got a tape measure close by?

Peter it does look like the hamilton agitator we discussed a while back.  Maybe the agitator was replaced at some time and this is what was on the service truck?  Robert you are on a roll this month.  Vegas?  I like "Norgay" maybe we were pronouncing it incorrectly all the time.  alr

The agitator looks well used in this machine, so I don't think its a replacement.  I wonder if the angle wing agitator was introduced sometime in 1956?  I seem to remember this same"Hamilton" agitator in the Norge that Ross has as well.

agitator

I like the agitator in the 56 you already have better than this Hamilton version. It's nice you found this for parts if nothing else.

Norgay...LOL Well, Norge is spelled how Norwegians spell the name of their country and in Norwegian it kind of sounds like "Norgay". :)

Huh, I don't get it. There has only been two of these style Norge models to show up.

Is the Tiki lamp on a little early today dear? :-)

About the gay Norge agitator

mickeyd's profile picture

It's a funny thing: some of the conventionals come with the 4 paddle agitator and some come with a slimmed down version like yours, except in 3 vanes. Maybe in the smaller tub, the slimmer agitator will allow greater turnover. The giant paddle in the small tub causes a sloshing back and forth, I think you once said and as your video shows. Oddly, Easy also made a very trim Spiralator, in black bakelite. I'd don't have any more or I'd show ya. Just surmising that a trim was in, for a while.

Innocently meant question--

What is so luxurious about this washer? Looks like almost every other Time Line to me.
