Hello everyone. I have a GE Combination Washer-Dryer (circa 1969-1971) that I need to donate. I have had this machine since high school, and over the years i have just never been able to get to it's restoration (which 30 years ago would not have been as hard!) Anyhow, it is at my parents home on Long Island and I really need to get it out of the garage. I live on the west coast and there is no way I will ever get to this machine. It needs to go to a good home.

I had started to work on it, and there are parts not installed, but I have them. The machine worked, but the speed changer was not function properly when I dismantled it.

Attached are some pics for a better reference (the stain on the top panel has been there since I got it)

I am at the house this weekend, so if anyone in the NY metro area wants to own this you may call me and we can arrange a time. I am leaving on Sunday morning, but if you can't make it this weekend there is always someone here who can let you into the garage where it is located.

I hope someone in the club would like to own this. It is in very good shape physically; it just needs cosmetic work, and the speed changer repaired. If no one wants it I will be forced to junk it (ouch!).

My cell is 801-953-2267, or you can email me. Thanks!

Is a speed changer hard to repair? Hard to find used?

Is it gas or electric?

Speed changer

Hi, i don't think the speed changer is hard to repair or replace (it's basically a synchronous motor attached to some gearing) If I recall correctly the speed changer motor would stall out & would have to be manually manipulated to start up again. I am no longer in NY at this time, but if you want to see it let me know. There is always someone there that can give you access.

You can email me or call me: 801-953-2267

GE COMBO

All GE combos are water condensing for drying and electric and I have lots of good used parts and the experience and knowledge to help anyone fix this machine if they want to get it.

Paul,

I think I only need tub bearings for my 1967? GE Combo.

I can not justify bringing the whole machine back to Illinois, even though I will be in the Baltimore area this coming Sunday Aug 28.

Thanks for thinking of me.

Mike

Mike I have lots of the dials for the timers, remind me when we see you, the tub bearings are fairly generic the water seal is a little harder to get.

Adopted!

The combo has found a new home! Thank you to Melvin (SupremeWhirlpol) for saving it from the scrap yard!

I like the round window on the one, that was just adopted.  Did this vary year to year?  alr

GE COMBO WINDOWS

combo52's profile picture

Were all square until 1969 and then they were changed to round through the end of production in the spring of 1972. The interesting thing is in 1970 they went to a frosted window that you could no longer see through very well, so if you end up with a frosted window model try to find the earlier round non frosted window, they are interchangeable.

Frosted window

Then mine must be at least from 1970 as it has a frosted window. I hated that when I first turned it on! You can't see s__t! Very frustrating! :D
