Found this GE Dryer along with an old washer (but thats another message). Can anyone share any information and what I might be able to do with it?

I bet there are tons of GE treasures there in Schenectady...  Is the great GE sign still there on the office building?

GE Sign

Although most of GE has moved out the sign is still there and they still change the colors for Christmas and 4th of July.

That's a 1961 TOL dryer.

I have a brochure of 1962 dryers. Is this simular? Can you take a closeup of the console? Is this gas or electric?
Thanks,
Peter

Nice Find; didja get it?

This was one of the two (I think) years without a PUSH TO START button on the TOL model. You pulled out on the timer knob to start the dryer and the whole control panel flexed in a disturbing manner. I did not like the design as well as I did the 1959, but tended to be resistant to change even then.

COOL TOL GE DRYER

GE did not make gas dryers till around 1964 or 5 and the first ones were not labeled as GE but were called Premier, but they were styled to match GE washers.

Here is a picture of the controls. It lights up from behind and it says pull to run.

GE Label

The machine is labeled as GE. It has a small cartridge for an air freshener.

Gosh - I need to add one like that to my collection. I've always associated "Pull To Start" with washer timers (especially GE), but not dryers!

Is this one operational, or have you tried it out? Looks like it could benefit from a good polishing.

Here is a 1962 TOL that I used to own (now in the possession of another automaticwasher person). By 1962 GE had reverted to their "Press To Start" switch.

GE Dryer Status

Have not tried it out. Would need to hook up wires and really the dryer was sitting in my Mother's basement. I will be looking to see what I can do to sell or donate it as well as the Blackstone Model A Electric Washer from the 1930's
