Does anyone know what year Maytag ceased production of the WU201/401/601 dishwashers? What series replaced it?
I grew up with a 1977 WU601 in the house that lasted until 1999.
I have recently taken posession of a WU601 with Almond front panels that needs a little work but I think is restorable. Just curious here. Thanks!

Much like the washers and dryers, MT kept a lot of the same model numbering system, the last two numbers being the generation. A606, A608, A610, etc... This did carry over with their DWs too. WU900, 901, 902, 903 etc... Most of them are minor differences in features, like the WU902 has a "Low Energy" wash cycle, the WU900 does not. I believe what would have replaced these would be the "07" series, which was then succeeded by the series the DWU, and then the MDB series. I believe that would be it for the standard/short tub line up.

I believe the reverse racks were discontinued around the end of the 80s. Someone on the forum knows exactly what year, do a quick search. That's what I am going to do now LOL

Post a picture of the new find please!

Actually, it's an "old" find. This came to me via Don "Jetaction" who got it from Ben "Swestoyz". It's become a bit of a orphan. Ben posted about it a few years ago when he first took posession.

Reverse racks

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the last reverse rack came off the line in late 1990 or early 1991.

The '01 series, I think, were the last reverse racks to have 3 final rinses. The belt drive continued at least through the '02 series if not the '03. By '04 the reverse racks had the direct drive motor.

You are very, very fortunate to have found something in the '01 series. You have all the best features: reverse rack, belt drive, better spray arm and best of all three final rinses.

Great find!!

I bought a WU700 (1 model below TOL) in Oct/91 and it was a reverse rack. It sure could clean and quickly compared to the models of today. It as a little on the loud side though.

Here's a "money shot".
The racks must have been replaced somewhere along the line because the pump assembly, tower and dispensers are all white while the racks are blue. I'm not sure what year the blue racks came along, but the racks always matched the other plastic items.

The "plate"
It's clearly a "3" series. Ben tells me it's 1977, perhaps late 1977?
It still has three rinses after the main wash.

Series designation

Mark,

My terminology was incorrect. When I said sries "01" and series "02" I was speaking of the last two digits in the Model number.

Thei first Maytags were '00' like model 600 or 400. The next change in models produced the '01' model numbers. Like 601,401, or 201.

So my terminology did not match Maytag. Their "series" numbers represented changes within a given model line. For example variations in design of the 601 models.

The 00 models and 01 models (like your 601) have the third final rinse. Starting
with te 02 models, Maytag dropped the final rinse. Presumably to cut down on water consumption.
