Hi Guys
I've fount out I need to post the thread i here about the 9524
Anyway let's cut to the chase...

On the back botton frame of the cabine there is serious issues of rust!

Let me know your suggestions please.

What type of rust???

 Is it structural or surface. If it's structural and the base appears to be weakened the say goodbye as your machine will likely goe walkies on spin. Usually some surface rust can occur when machines have leaking pumps etc. over the years that were replaced. Daniel don't worry if your machine isn't a great nominee for preservation. Patience is the name of the game and I had to learn that as I live in Ireland and I'm nearly sure your area will have many in possesion yet.

well, it depends. I have seen my uncle on two washers I thought were lost causes, (rust had eaten through the cabinet completely, making large holes), save them. He cut and ground out the worst of the damage, pop riveted sheet metal behind it, used Bondo, (auto body filler) in the holes, and after a good sand and paint, it was hardly noticeable. Not sure how well they functioned, after, but never heard of any complaints from the aunt and cousin they went to.

I haven't actually felt the cabinet to see but at the moment I am really not sure.
It might have to go heave hoe on the scrap heap if it's not structually safe!

Finally... A bit blurry but new clearer pics on my digi cam will come soon. This one shows the rust damage and the tilted door bowl which was taken from the 9325 dryer (left) and put on the 9524 washer.

Without trying to disappoint you

 I have to say I think it is highly unlikely that you will be able to restore that machine, at least not without another machine for parts and a LOT of cash. Even if you had the whole cabinet resprayed, the only realistic way to get a new fascia would be to get one off of another 9524.

If it were a much older and harder to come by machine then it would probably be worth it, but these machines are still all over the place, so if you hold off any repairs and keep searching ebay, gumtree etc, and check all your local repair shops and 2nd hand stores frequently, it won't take you very long to find the same or similar model in much better condition than that.

I'm not saying take the one you have to the skip though, it could be useful for parts for the other machine once you find it, although from what you have mentioned about the problems it has in this and other threads, I would suspect that very little of it is salvageable.

Hi Daniel.

Have been meaning to post to you for ages, but have had a LOT on at the moment and this is the first opportunity I have had to post stuff.
Even before seeing your photos of the machine, I was going to ask you whether, bearing in mind the machines issues, you were wanting to restore it because its a family machine or just because you have a 95 on your hands?


Having literally just seen the pictures of the machine and the dryer alongside, I would have to say that unfortunately I too believe that it is beyond salvation.
Externally its panels are very, very, very rust damaged and a restoration job would be a big and expensive undertaking - far bigger than anything I have undertook.
The panels might be resprayable, but then that is cost to you, and they would need taking back to bare metal and heavily rust treating (subject to there being any metal left in the badly rusted areas).

If a donor machine was to surface for you, then you would no doubt find yourself cannibalising a machine in infinitely better condition than the one that you are restoring.

If a 95 is what you want then I really would get in touch with some friendly repair shops (there are one or two out there, its just a case of finding them) and see if they will give you a nudge when they get one in for scrap.

Restoring your 9524 would be a VERY BIG undertaking indeed.

p.s the hardest restoration conducted by me was of the machine below (well, I paid someone else to do it). I wanted it restored because it was a purple jobby (a bit of rarity) and mechanically it turned out to be in superb condition.
However its restoration only came about thanks to a 9605, which was being cannibalised for spares for two or three other restorations.
Had that spares donor 9605 not been being scrapped anyway, then the 1509 would still be looking like a wreck and would probably have been parted out for spares itself.

WOW thats a bloody big difference! that looks good.
dan, if you really cant do anything with the machine, then like matt says you will be better selling the working parts.
Although, what state is the dryer in? you could maybe have a go at that. is it as bad?
