I always wondered what causes the FF tub to spin freely for a few rotations, then stop and make a snap noise up against something once it starts agitating?

That has a tub brake that stops the drum from going counter clockwise after the spin. It can be freely turned clockwise to help remove the finished load. Once the tub is full to the selected water level and the agitator starts moving, the drum goes clockwise and the tub brake engages keeping the tub from moving either way.Unlike the Frigiscares that have that damned indexing. However, even though they have yet to list them, Frigiscare has some new top loaders w/out agitators as we now know them.

Filter Flo agitation

yours is working perfectly, takes about 10 seconds and maybe 3/4 or more turn of the basket to lock in at the start of agitaton. No problems at all, it takes time to learn all the different machines' peculiarities.

Isn't this the same braking concept as Norge/Wards?
