Anyone seen this? Our 8 yr old Gibson FL dryer leaves 2-3" linear rust stains on our clothes. They are not there when the clothes come out of the washer. It is my guess that these come from areas of rust under the edges of the vanes, where the plastic vanes have, over time, rubbed the enamel off the tub. Pushing the vane aside reveals bare rusty metal underneath. An argument for a stainless steel tubs.

Check the front felt seal that the front of the drum rides on. The plastic bearing surface wears down and causes a gap between the edge of the drum and the felt seal.If you can lift the top then you will see the drum seal glued to the front panel. Hope this helps!

Thank You Coldspot

Thank you. I unplugged the dryer, popped the top and YES, there is the eroded and missing plastic shims resing on the rusty felt. What next? Can I buy a replacement felt and shim set? Does Gibson still exist?. Would it work to peel the felt strip off and turn it over and glue it back in place. Any ideas for replacing the shims which are attached by stems that perforate the felt. This is way farther than I have ever ventured into a dryer, but... whatever it takes to gain a modicum of respect from this august crowd. Discoverying all the spare change laying on the bottom of the innards was almost as satisfying of discoverying a unique collection of like minded souls who love machines, washing cleaning, and sharing. Great fun!
Again, Thanks for your suggestions..Laundiboy
