Some time ago, I found Todd (Washerlover) a Speed Queen set at a local Goodwill. Months later he finally found the time to hook her up and see what she does. The only problem is when you add bleach to the dispenser, it all leaks onto the ground. But not a water leak in sight, and all kinds of interesting noises! Even the console light worked. Gotta love that overflow rinse! One of the parts on the inside had a date of 1966 on it. The matching dryer has yet to be tested.

SQ also has the "Extra Fill" marking on the normal cycle for low-pressure situations. I remember accidentally hitting that spot once at my aunt's and panicking when the basket started overflowing -- didn't fully understand about solid-tub machines at that age ... although I should have because I knew it had the overflow rinse.

I am speechless before this magnificent Queen! I've never seen one in coppertone before. And is that a metal agitator? |

Beautiful machine! Very flexible controls with lots of options. No surprise really on the bleach dispenser troubles, they used a long tube to hold the bleach and probably on this model a tiny pump to push the bleach up to the fill flume where it was carried into the tub with the overflow wash. Bleach is very corrosive and tended to eat away the tube, the pump and the hoses so they leaked after a while - unfortunately, all over the floor! Great find, you will have a lot of fun with this washer. |

Did the fabric softener dispenser not come with it? That would be a 1969 or 1970 model. My Mother had the matching dryer, which she got in '69. Be sure to post pics of the washer and dryer together. |

Was the Speed Queen Company in any way related to the Filter Queen Vacuum Company? |

My thanks to Jay for taking pics & posting for me. I'm not very computer literate, especially when it comes to downloading stuff. Yeah, it's a great machine! I was curious about the year; was going to ask about the model number but so much rust over the years the model plate is gone. But found a date stamp on a solenoid that read 09/66. It must be about that old since it has the aluminum agitator. The fill connections leaked a bit but I managed to fix them and she runs like new! Can't wait to see if the matching dryer works, too. |

My mom had the middle priced set, below this one, in coppertone. I would love to have it back. |

I have an extra fabric softner dispenser that I would gladly trade for a speed queen lint filter. |

That's a really attractive machine there! Looks like you shined it all up with some automotive wax. |
