Why would anyone give up a superior-performing bowwtie machine for one of these unless it was just to fill a hole in a collection? |

It's on St. Louis craigslist, but as usual I can't make the link work. (so cyber-inadequate). He has it listed as Westinghouse. Sorry for the confusion, I was most frustrated. |

Okay, so I can get the picture, but not a link. Here's a pic. Paul, do you want me to seek it out for you? |

I made an offer on this GE Portable Dishwasher, and the seller came back with a very high counter offer, 2 1/2 times what my original offer was. Then I explained to him how many vintage dishwashers I had, gave him the average amount I had paid for all of my dishwashers made between 1946 and 1960, and renewed my original bid. Four days later, he wrote to me and asked if I was still interested in buying the dishwasher at my original bid amount, and I said yes. I will be driving to Southern Illinois to pick it up this Sunday morning, Dec 18th. I am anxious to add this G.E. Portable to my collection, since it is an example of a handful of G.E. models which reintroduce the Portable Dishwasher for General Electric, after the failed first attempt with the round tub portable. I believe these first reintroduced portable models were produced in 1956 and 1957. Once I see the machine in person, and review the model and serial number, I will be able to clarify my assumptions. The MobileMaid models were introduced, I believe, in 1958. Mike This post was last edited 12/13/2011 at 20:22 |

I spent quite a bit of time Monday afternoon and evening, December 19th, cleaning it up. It is amazing that the porcelain tub can take quite a bit of scrubbing with cleaners like Barkeepers Friend, and shine like new afterwards. I have done some testing, but will report on that in another update coming shortly. |
