'60s whirlpool

still seems to be a lot of '60s whirlpools around-one should turn up soon or
someone here might have a spare one stashed away they could offer.

THey seem tough to find... is there someone who restors these things and just sells them as antiques or something?

If you can give us a picture as to which design you are looking for, that would be helpful.

What you are posting is not a link. If it is, you're going to have to tell me how to view the page at sale-b4fhn-2713457361@craigslist.org , otherwise what you have posted does not tell me anything. I'm trying to narrow down exactly what machine you are looking for, but you not helping me very much. Lets take this one very slow step at a time: Since I can't read your mind I will post some pictures of Whirlpool machines. All you have to do is tell me the post number and YES or NO. Comprende?

I hope others don't mind me posting pictures of their machines...

These are one of my faves in my collection -- wouldn't part with them for anything but they are always available for a showing along with many other makes if and when someone wants to venture to the rugged and beautiful Redwood Coast of northwestern California!

I am not entirely sure of the features; it looks like a fairly basic model. I think that design of control panel was on more than one model series. However this is an MOL 1972 model with a manual clean (Magic Mix) filter. I never saw one in person, but a Harvest Gold version of this model was featured in the original Halloween movie. The matching dryer to that one had the full width door, which I thought was cool.

Good Luck,
James

So what was I doing looking in the first place? I couldn't pass them up.

They had been in the same house since new. The house sold and the new owners were "remodeling" so out these went. I have the manuals, receipts, etc. from when they were new. I don't have a money shot to post but will take some tomorrow.

So does anyone know where any of these are for sale? I need one with the lint catcher brush... I have look at one person machine on here and it was not quit what I wanted.. But I may still end up with it anyway. These things seem really tough to find!

Ask a question if anyone knows. Why do some have white agitators and some have black? Is there something with coloration that ment different models or years or features? Or is it just random and does not mean anyting.

It is definitely getting harder to find these vintage appliances but they are still out there. Usually as others have said they can be found at estate sales and on craigslist but rarely will you find them in a used appliance store unless they specialize in vintage items. I would say just be patient but be persistent in looking online and you will come across something. When I was actively looking I would scan craigslist twice a day. You'd be amazed at what you can find. If you settle for something but it's not what you want, later you may find what you were looking for and then you'll be mad you didn't wait longer. Don't give up!

GREAT LOOKING WHIRLPOOLS PATRICK

combo52's profile picture

I am in the process of restoring my 1965 WP pair of TOL, LMA9900s which are very similar looking to yours. Mine are also white but the washer has the Suds-Miser and the dryer is gas. The dryer lint filters were all short at this time on KM & WP dryers as all full sized dryers were the same capacity. But the one interesting thing about our dryers with the super speed setting was that the lint filter was actually an inch wider on these machines than on the less expensive WPs or on any KM models.

Thanks Peter and John!

That is interesting about the lint filter. I didn't think that all the models at that time would have had the smaller drum but it makes sense now that you mention it. Thanks for the background info on that.

John, Do you think the timer control knob was replaced at some point on the washer since it's solid chromed metal amd the dryer timer control is all plastic with a metal cover on the knob? Also one of the little matal covers is missing on one of the dryer knobs. You wouldn't happen to have a spare knob would you?

Patrick

You are correct about the washer timer knob being replaced Patrick, its funny the machines looked so good that I didn't even notice that the knob was replaced. I will keep my eyes open as I may have the two parts you need, and actually my washer has the wrong water level control knob.

The under-appreciated (in a world where GE, Kenmore & Maytag rule!) Whirlpool washer thread gets a (another) 'Bump!'...!

And there's the soon-to-be-modified (Hot Rod-ed!) Sapphire Blue... My fav' is in Reply #8, White w/ the push-buttons in a horizontal array; and why did Whirlpool do away w/ separate Speed Controls?

Now what's the ad I often see as P.O.D. doing here?! (Reply # 24)
