Love that Westinghouse 20lb Laundromat washer, one of their best machines, I which I could buy that machine for home use, it would be great!

Reverse Tumble?

 I'm confused. I've seen ads of Westy Laundromats from the late 60s - early 70s (post slant-front), saying that they feature reverse-tumble. But I saw a White-Westinhouse on YouTube which only tumbled in one direction, and they said that the reverse-tumble was introduced in the 80s. Which is true?

This machine is close to the White-Westinghouse machines which were at my local laundromat. They had yellow cabinets and a multiposition metal knob on the left hand side to select water temperature and the square neon lights to indicate power and last rinse.

I distinctly remember the wail these motors had when they were spinning, both spinning up and slowing the tub down.

I seem to recall that these machines didn't have any suspension, but were bolt down models and that they spun roughly around 600 RPM.

So, the vintage is very close to what I remember.

Universal motors are reversible by swapping polarity of either field or armature. They make the distinctive whine.

What am I doing wrong? I don't get a pic or a link.

Looks like a machine designed to compete with the Dexter, SQ and Wascomat double loader hardmount cabinet type washer/extractors that were coming into favor at the time.
