This is a Hobart/KitchenAid Superba VariCycle. My Grandmother had one of these. Bought it in the mid 60's and it out lived her. The machine made it to 2003. These machines are a fine example of Hobart quality and washing power. Everything will be spotless that gets washed in this DW. Just don't put in anything fragile.
BTW This machine has a true sani rinse (180F). Hope a member out there can save it. |

So when was this "bottom mount timer" last used?
I must have seen a K/A Superba at least ONCE w/ this feature, while the couple '50's models at least in my neighborhood sported one (though they were that KA-2, or whatever & long gone--yeh, even the portable across the street; couldn't notify the neighbor selling the house in time, sorry!)... -- Dave |

The 15 series machines were the last to have a [ user accessible ] bottom mounted timer. On the 16s and 17s the timers were moved to the control panels except on the Superbas where the timers were hidden below the tub. After the 17s all timers for remaining KA DWs were mounted in top of the door with either a knob or hidden on the TOL models. |

My folks bought a KDS-15 in 1966, the first d/w we ever had as a kid growing up. It truly was a magnificent machine, especially to a 16 yr old who'd previously had to wash the dishes, I think that's why to this very day I love dishwashers so much!
I think the KA-15 series was 1965 to 1969, or thereabouts? |
