What are my chances finding this dishwasher that will blast the paint off the corelle dishes?

Going down memory lane....
This was my first dishwasher that I brought for my mother's kitchen when we done a light cabinet/counter replacement.
This unit really cleaned pots and pans on the upper rack and the clanking of the plates and hearing the water whoosh on the door
means that the pump was super charged and ready it get the job done right!
The grinder wasn't perfect but still the pots, pans and glassware did shine!

These were great machines, I liked the so-called food grinder that had 4 sharpened blades attacted directly to the motor shaft, before the water returned to the pump........I would say the next best option would be the ULTRA-WASH series, my own experience is the 1986 to 1993 areas......I have 2 portable/convertibles, one with a center tower, and one without...many options, for cycles, loading, power scrub, to aireated gentle china cycle........

I think the best part was following Sears idea of baking a bundt cake, placing it in the dishwasher, and watch it disappear with a Normal cycle......no residue or spec of that cake left.....

but I also like JohnL's idea of the dried ketchup bottle.....I'm gonna try that one next.....

Peter,
You gave me a trip that I wished everyone would experienced!
Yes I did had that dishwasher and the last time I saw one of those was in the back of a collection truck when I was dropping a load at the recycling dump in Bayonne, NJ.
Hearing the timer advancing, clicking and pop was so 80's and the only thing that I did not like, if I loaded the detergent cups and wanted to change cycle after starting, the dispenser would dump out and you know the routine! Overall, performance was excellent, but yibbie and bits would catch on the upper part of the door but not so much the dishes!

Now I know that oatmeal and spinach in a pot met its match on the top rack and be cleaned the first time round and baked on goods on the lower rack never had a chance to hold on to the surface!!
To test any dishwasher power, cook oatmeal and spinach and let it dry, then put it on the upper rack and see how clean it come out with a normal load of dishes. If everything is removed in the first wash using the normal cycle then you got you money's worth!

These newer energy saver, silent machine are nice and sleek looking, but cleaning is just so, so for baked on crud using both racks!

Martin,

The Ultra wash series was a very good performer, but the wash time was somewhat reduced and cleaning was almost the same as 7034.
It's funny I still have the UltraClean Dishwasher in my shed out back.

Nice machine Larry I remember seeing once, but the step down model with the rotory knob was the one that was popular.

Saw those in a lot of homes.

Yes I like to hear rapid advance machines or euro electro-mechanical timers...the just click forever lol.

Early Power Clean dishwashers they clean very well ...worked for this lady once she had the same system in a portable,Whirlpool branded.

I never thought the tower that sprays the upper arm and then shuts water in then goes through and hits the deflector was not all that effective.

And the rotory adjustment knobs sort of botherd me its just the twirling to get the height you like.

It sort of reduces space where glasses go.

But they cleaned well.

I use my Power Clean weekly for the past 8 yrs now and still going strong.

Water Miser cycle is Kenmore way of saying light wash ?

Did it really reduce water or just less water changes ?

Power Cleaned dishes.

Corelle Dishes.

Peter you have the best Literiture !

Darren k

Yikes, what a difference in price! I went through my 80's catalouges and it seems that style of dishwasher was only offerd in 1985. The next year, the buttons went from two rows to one. When I first started going to auction sales 8 years ago, I saw this dishwasher in a portable modle. It sold for $25.00. I am still kicking myself for not getting it.

And that price!?!

Brian,

These older baskets were great to use. I'm sorry that they was not on a diet back in the 80's like today's models.
Today's baskets are like a bra, they lift and separate!

I hope your computer comes back fixed and no other problems crops up during the Holiday Seasons.
It's just nice to find a great machine that is getting harder and harder to find.
They're still out there, but what are the chances another one will show up Craigslist or ebay?
It can, and will...., just keep looking like me!

What a find! Fantastic machine, Larry.

Looks very similar, in many ways to my parents 1968 Modern Maid.

The changes that I see:

1.) It looks like the lower wash arm was redesigned with smaller holes (and more holes).

2.) The Tub is white, and on the Modern Maid it was "Robins Egg" blue (according to the Modern Maid owner's manual, this was the name of the color.

3.) There is a third spray arm, on the top, that the Modern Maid did not have.

Other than these, and of course a different control panel, it seems few changes were made in 15 years. Same pump, same motor, same mount for the middle wash arm.

Same cycle progression WRRWRR as the MM.

By the way, a little off topic, what year did Sears stop using the Roto-Rack?

My guess (but could be wrong) is was because of limiting total capacity for the machine and also limiting pot sizes that could be used in the upper rack. I remember my sister and brotherin-law's roto-rack. If a heavy pan were put in the upper rack, sometimes it would make the rack go out of balance as it spun with some loud ensuing banging noises. A panhandle, inadvertently stuck out or up too far, resulted in no rack spin.(which equaled dirty dishes in roto-rack when cycle was done) However, they liked it well, as a dishwasher.

Could it be that too many customer complaints, because of these deficiencies, resulted in Sears asking for their machines to be designed with standard upper racks?

I imagine the scrubability of your model, Larry, was greater due to the redesign of the wash arms with the smaller holes. Smaller holes=greater force.
