Hi!

Our loyal and faithful Bosch washing machine is broken. It was in the morning, whilst we were in bed, there was a loud BANG and we thought it was the plumbing. When we got downstairs, I unloaded the washer, only to find the clothes still very wet. OK, I said, and I set it to do a spin. The motor went into life, but absolutely no movement in the drum. So I need your help to identify what the problem is so I can try fixing it before we have to pay for a repairman.

Thank You.

Jacob

The belt is the most likely cause for this one.

Could you rotate the drum by hand? Normally? If yourer unlucky, the spider may have snapped.

when I manually turn, it turns faster and more free than before, and makes a rumbling sound?

Got to be the belt.

Hey

I've just watched the video, I think the belt has either came off or snapped.

Good luck with the repair :)

When you say the motor went into life, what do you mean? Did you hear it turning?

Was there any metallic noise with the bang, or any smell at all? A belt snapping might hit off the side of the cabinet, but wouldn't normally make a bang sound as I would call a bang.

I guess you could take the top off and see if belt is still there. If it is, then you'll probably need to get someone out, but if it's not, or is hanging loose, then that is likely the problem and nice and easy to fix :)

Quite likely the belt

I would suspect the belt snapped and hit the side of the machine and that caused the noise you heard. the other possiblity is that the drum pulley broke or came off the drum shaft. If that happened while the machine was ramping up to spin speed it would make a hell of a noise.

bearings

since you get a rumble when drum is manually spun, that indicates bearings are bad
-if they are bad enough and if you can lift up the drum and move it independant of
the outer tub, drum pulley may have moved wobbled enough for the belt to misstrack
and come off...

Broken Bosch

If you can hear a rumble when turning the drum, than it will certantly be the bearings. Also, if the drum spins very loosely and does not slow down quickly, than the drivebelt will have snapped.

The bet is the problem called the Bosch guy a week ago and made an appointment for this Thursday, the 30th. Has now being delayed to the 7th of January.

However, as the laundry piled up, I got fed up. Went out at 9:00am today to the local appliance shop in the next town. Went in, told the man about our situation, and went for a Hotpoint WM62. What a Christmas pressie!

Done about four loads so far, and then remembered all the laundry left, a pile 2 and a half feet tall!

So many loads tomorrow, and a friend of the family's washer has broken down, so several bin bags full of washing will be coming on Wednesday.

Oh, and some stained tea towels and tablecloths. All stained.

And those wet items I hand washed that needed spin drying.

Oh my goodness, good job one has a big box of Persil to get me through the next week!

Thank You

Jacob

P.S Here is a photo, some more to follow.

P.P.S Does anyone have a manual?

Manual

Well, in the link is a manual of WM62, and some other models, as far as I could, I couldn't find the WM62 manual only.

How much did you pay for it? :)
