I shot this the beginning of October while I was in Tucson, AZ visiting Ross (Westyslantfront), Nate (roto204) and Roger (rogera608s).   I also have one of these little gems, but mine isn't up and running yet.   Soon! (New Years Resolution!)

I also shot video of Rogers Blackstone washer which I should have up on Youtube in the next few days.

I hope you enjoy!
Kevin

Martin is sooo right!

Multiple machines make for the best laundry solution! Big and small, top and front loaders all have their place and usual loads.

Commercial Laundromats

When I was a kid, there were quite a few wash, dry, fold places in our city called Snow White Westinghouse Laundromats. The ladies in their white uniforms would load the wash into a long row of the same machines as the video (less the coin boxes), then to the extractor and then into big gas dryers, I believe the dryer name was Cissal? Before long, self serve laundromats like the Maytag Highlander Centers and Norge Villages took over and the Snow White's all were closed, since it was 20-25 cents per load at the self serve. Since most people now have in-home laundry, there are very few self serves left around here but those that are left all have the big capacity machines that many people take their big, oversized loads that wont fit in a regular home machine.

Laundromat Washer

I had a machine like this one, except that it did not have a coin timer. It came with a knob where the coin accepter is on this one. It was white, and it did not have the square access hole in the front panel. It had a date on the timer of 1948. It had a transmission with a solonoid on it to shift between wash and spin speeds. The transmission broke after I had used it for about 10 years, and I put it in the back of the garage with 3 other machines. When I returned, the washers were gone. Oh well. I've never seen one like it since.

Spin Speed of this washer

The spin speed of these Westinghouse washers is around 500 RPM. They never dried the wash as well as top-loaders, but was then one of the fastest-spinning front-loaders. My commercial brochure for the 20lb washer says they spun at 455 RPM. Jason

I "think" the newer 3 belt Westys spun about 450 or so and honestly I don't think this one is any faster then that.

Jason, is there any you can scan the brochure  of that 20lb machine and post it?  This washer is very small, I think you'd be lucky if you can get 8 lbs in it!

STANDARD CAPACITY BOLT DOWN WH COMMERCIAL FLers

The bolt down machines spun considerably slower that the non bolt down home models, I would guess that it is in the 300-350 RPM range.
