Yep - looks like a trip to Tulsa very soon! Does anyone have knowledge of this enormous range? It appears to have 8 burners, a griddle, 3 ovens - Whoa!

Super neat-guess the deer hunters would like this---cook the ENTIRE deer at once!But---for here-the deer season is over!Or that range would be for the army of a family!Enough room on there for each persons favorite!

Man I hope you have some very big and strong friends to help you move that monster. Its gonna take 3 or 4 people to move that with confidence around corners and such hopefully no stairs involved. Beautiful stove. Man you could really do some major cooking on that.

Cool.

But be prepared to have to do some restoration.

Like re-plating griddle, maybe replacing the burner drip trays esp if they are chromed, servicing gas valves and pilots, oven thermostats, etc. Pretty much a given that the clock has stopped as well ;-).

It looks like something you'd find in a convent or other such place that houses people.

A fully restored version of this beast would command a huge price. And at what the seller is asking, it is quite a bargain as it looks complete.

If anything, you could buy it at that price and flip it as is for around $1500-2000.

We'll See...

Thanks to everyone for your input and perspectives.

I'm trying to make an informed decision. I talked with the owner and am awaiting some pics before I drive 3.5 hours to purchase. Had to make sure I could re-configure some things in my kitchen to have a place for it.  Will know more soon.

  • Whirlcool - you're right - it came from a church; been sitting in a barn for 3 years
  • Retroman  - good point - I've got 2 friends as big as Mike Tyson - problem solved
  • Norgeway - yes - it's 60" wide -  with all that cooking space I'll need you to come and work your magic on it with some of Betty's recipes - lol
  • Sudsmaster - so right - yes - there'll be some upgrades needed I'm sure - hopefully not too much - will need to locate somebody in the area who's good on gas appliances; any suggestions of where to get re-plating done would be appreciated
  • Wayupnorth - the seller says it's fully functional & in great condition - will see; have no idea what it may be worth - after restoration.

Thanks everyone!

John

If you decide against buying this, let me know. I'm interested but have held off so that you could have first crack at it. It is an excellent deal at this price, I say go for it.

You can see one of those in use

Grab a copy of the movie "Soul Food", the Grandmother had one in her house, used to make Sunday Dinners in the movie. I thought it looked awesome in that movie too. Good luck on the bid.

Nice stove and from a church should not need much restoration.  Miami is just a few miles out of Joplin.  Will be a freeway trip for yu all the way.  Miami is about 65 miles from where I am on the Arkansas/Oklahoma border.

Ropers in that time were great stoves.  Solid as a rock and the oven were great.  The burners were solid cast iron too.

Wow. That is one hell of a vintage appliance. I could move into that and be quite comfortable. That's the stretch limo of ranges, man!

Go For It...

58limited - please proceed and best of luck! Looks to be a great stove - I just won't be pursuing it. I've forwarded the pictures which I received from the owner to your email as listed on your profile.
Thanks
John

A Chrysler Town & Country STATION WAGON would make a better comparison, there, I would think!

58Limited - it's the perfect companion for your big bad Chambers! And as you already know of all the re-porcelain-ing and re-chroming outfits from the "other" website, you'll be all set for a primo resto...Good Luck!

I spoke with David last night. He can't go for it now, so I am. Yeah, just what I need. Anyway, it's coming next week.

That stove looks like a real gem. Other than the left side insert on the oven door handle and a little elbow grease, it should be mint. Cograts Travis on your new stove!

Great Save

I'm so glad that you're getting it Travis.  It is a treasured piece of equipment that will only be more valuable when you get it fully restored.  Not sure how many of these are still around - but it's the first one I've seen over the years.  I'm so glad that a fellow AW member got it.   Congratulations on your new stove.
