As I think I mentioned in that other thread, the Whirlpools get around the regulation with their 'softener added yes/no' switch which can allow the machine to spin-rinse. That qualifies those machines with possible lower water use.
Speed-Queen and their parent is a different company and how they meet the energy standards overall (or choose not to meet them) is different than WP. In fact, I don't think GE's basic machines do these partial fills either. GE either allowed those models to the come to market not meeting the regulations, or the company overall qualifies with enough other models. Gordon |
