Belts for TwinTubs....part2 |

With advice from Tim and Ted, and putting our heads together.......I think were hitting the nail on the head of creating belts for the TwinTubs, which are working and holding up......though a few ideas that didn't work out at first.....
Ted has purchased NeoPrene cord which will be glued together....and were waiting to see what happens with that once he gets this stuff in the mail.... I have gone to a "Sew and Vac" place and purchased O-Thane cord, mainly for sewing machines, he had 3/8" and 1/4".....I got the 1/4" @2.95 a foot, and these little slugs to connect the ends @.75 a piece......the guy assured me I would not have to glue them, but could if I wanted to, once put together, you can't pull them apart, but you can slice them horizontally, cut the end again, and re-attach if you need to make them tighter......

I measured around the pulleys and cut 1 inch shorter, pushed the two pieces together, and installed on the machine, it ran fine empty, the real test was with water and a load.......it can kick up some turbulence, but handles the load nicely, at least this time not so vigorous that it throws all the water out....

Kevin has jokes!......it's a shame he's too cute to bust on....
but the place where I got this stuff from will ship to you..... OR...I could pick it up and send it to you as well.....there may be places like this close to your location...what ever works easier for you... Well Tim....the windshield washer hose idea seemed to work.....but too thick, causing a powerful wash action that would throw the water out of the machine....
Ted and I have been working other ideas....he has ordered a Poli type of solid cord in which you would measure and super glue together to form a belt......were waiting for him to recieve this and try it out.... in the mean time, I have stopped by a Sew/Vac place, to which they have this similar hose used for sewing machines, mainly a trendle type machine, but could be used for motorized machines as well....anywho, I mentioned to the guy of what I needed and what I was using it for...he came out with this O-Thane cording, in 2 sizes, and just cut to fit, plus these little slugs that bond the ends together....an in an instant....I have a perfect belt....which so far has been holding up under the stress of the machine in use.....crossing my fingers it holds up....so far so good......could probably make one for the pump of the Hoover as well..... | ||

Well, the 1/4" cord stock came. It's solid and is a material used to make high pressure O-rings. The guy I bought it from said to cut it square and put on just a drop of Crazy Glue to bind the two ends together. I did that and it worked! I was skeptical, but it sticks together like you wouldn't believe. The belt works great!
