Asking $100.00 for this nice looking set. If I'm reading correctly the dryer is a DG408 built in December of 79. If I'm full of beans someone here will straighten me out.

Maytag 40x Set

This is the set I have, DE408 and an A407, both 1976 models. These are a good midrange set, and my favorite.

The dryer offers 2 temps (140 AND 150 woo hoo) and timed, fluff and regular and perm. press auto-dry cycles. The electric version isn't very fast but quiet and cavernous. It can hold 2 loads from the washer handily if you're willing to wait for it to dry.

The washer is the entry-level big-tub machine, Fabric-Matic 1-speed. The washer looks to be an A407, it only has 3 temps but has 4 water levels. On this machine the HOT setting also does a warm rinse. The A408 had 4 temp buttons seprating out the warm rinse as a dedicated button. Washer has 2 soak cycles, a 30-minute timed soak that spins at the end and an "infinite" soak that agitates for a bit and then stops until you manually advance the machine. This machine has a hidden "dry agitate" section on the dial and it can be used as a suds-saver.

I have a very similar set - A208 washer and DG408 dryer, both from 1977.  This is the washer that needs damper pads.  At some point, someone got crazy with the 'spray n wash' and did a number on the console with overspray.  I wish the consoles looked as good as Tim's!

This set needs a new home.

Dry agitate?

Very nice set!!!

Would love to add the 408 set to my collection.

So where exactly is the dry agitate? I imagine it is the space that would be used for the 'return suds' on the dial.

Very cool...
