Hi there,

been looking online for info/manuals etc for my mums creda 37402 dryer. it's been running perfectly for over 30 years in her house, and now that i've moved back home and started putting my stuff in it it breaks down, typical!

this has been bomb proof for ever and never given trouble. i'm hoping it can be fixed as i've repaired more modern machines of my own (after only a few years use - lightweight modern rubbish) but i need some help with it. can't find a manual online anywhere and would like to get an idea of whats where before taking it apart too much.

the problem - when i push the start button the 'heat' light comes on but only as long as i hold down the button, and the drum doesn't start to spin. took the back off and held in the start button for a few seconds and the heating element starts to glow red quite quickly, possibly a little spark off the terminals on it too.

any ideas as to the problem? something blown somewhere stopping it from firing up? or is the blower not firing up causing the element to overheat?

any help or advice and/or suggestions on where to find a manual greatfully received.

dave

Hi Dave

I hope I can help, as after your experiences with modern dryers, this one certainly needs a chance of a repair.

Firstly I would suggest that if you have to hold the start button on, then you need to check the `latch relay' behind the pannel, when we found this fault on an earlier version, it was just a spade terminal had come off the relay terminal.

If this is where the fault is then hopefully the motor and hence the drum and fan will problems will be solved. If it's not, is the motor seized,if not could be the starter capacitor by the motor or the reversing timer/ sitches.

These dryers have a cabinet that wraps over the sides and top of the machine, so take that off and you can get to all the components.

Hope that helps

Mathew

Another photo

of the relay, see the spade hanging loose, hope your as lucky to find such a simple repair. The hardest part is getting the dryer apart.

All the best

Mathew
