This is my half Norge half Maytag washer with a Crosley logo on it.The owner says they bought it in 1992 and the transmission went out in 2001 and since it had a 20 year warranty on the transmission they got it fixed. |

I was gonna ask the same thing Tim.........
also, is this the same as te Maytag Atlantis with the Dual-Drive tranny.... nice looking machine......but it sorta looses the burpilator effect or recirculating filter drama.... and we still wanna see a video of it in action at different cycles and water levels.... |

Wasn't this the twin of the Magic Chef that sent Kenmore home crying in the 1991/1992 Consumer Reports capacity ratings? I remember reading that and being floored, having assumed that the mighty Dual-Action agitator reigned supreme.
I also enjoyed the cover page of that issue, showing the Franklin Frigidaire Elite with its glam control panel, and two-T-shirts-and-a-sock capacity.
I think these are nice machines; the plastic outer tub was a natural progression for most platforms. That painted tub was inexcusable, though--I've seen some of these where the coating comes off in strips. That not withstanding, it's a cool machine, even minus the vorpulation :-) |

I am next door practically in Maine and the only Crosley products we had here that I can ever recall across the border was the Shelvador. I did have a chest freezer once labeled Crosley Shelvador, supposidly made my Maytag. When I was real small, my parents did have a Crosley Shelvador refrigerator that died on Christmas Eve one year and they replaced it with a Westinghouse. As far as Washers, never saw one. My father came from New Brunswick and he did like Crosleys but there were no dealers around here so he switched to Sears.

Crosley is still around. The "traditional" washers and dryers appear to be rebadged Whirlpools: CLICK HERE TO GO TO dnastrau's LINK |

of the older models like the one pictured and I remember being fascinated by it because it was the first time I had ever seen a BURPILATOR AGITATOR. It was the standard one I guess that came with those Montgomery ward machines and had the lint tray. I thought it was a brilliant idea and liked that it reminded me of the GE Filter pan but didn't require any additional pumps, hoses or recirculating water. Though I love all of those things, this was still pretty ingenious.
I guess everybody was bought by Whirlpool, huh? UUGH. |

I think what really did Norge in was every new model got cheapened more and more, after they took the big ol brake off them, to me they never were as good, back in the 60s and early 70s..they were the best! |

I agree....when the Maytag performa came out all the dependability of Norge was gone because they played with the transmission designs to much. |

I agree Hans that Norge washers were never as good after the brake solenoid was gone, but in actually Norge washers were never very durable from the beginning. Their dryers were on the other hand were built like a tank and often outlasted several washers until around 1967 when they changed to the two belt design and then they were a total POS from then on. |
