Looked at the POD of the Kenmore TOL units and it brought back memories when I first started to loose interest in the Kenmore machines, and it was about this time period.  The TOL units always had a distinctive look, I had the '73 Lady Kenmore with the piano keys and garage door and it was unique, yet the ones in the picture looked no different than the rest of the product line.  I always found that design very boring.  Was glad years later when i replaced the '73 LKs with a set of Electronic 90's  I got in '95 that the distinctive styling for the TOL units was back.

I always think of that late 70's early 80's period of Kenmore's as the lost era - at least for me...

It's hard to believe that was the era of the "Sears Kenmore Komeback", but proof that people wanted simpler machines than the zillions of push-buttons that trademarked their machines (as well as their myriad competition), and people were once again recognizing Sears, which finally regained the "top o' the heap" status after the "period of lull", earlier in that decade...

I liken this to the Fender Stratocaster vs. Gibson legacy in the guitar world... --That is it took Jimi Hendrix to give the Strat its "second wind", after the novelty of the design lost out to the Les Paul & SG becoming more popular...

But strictly my own Personal Observation...
