I wouldn't let the seller know that they are collectible, otherwise he might think they're worth much more than they really are. Also, if he gives you a price, negotiate with him. You'll be surprised that most people will take a lot less then what they are asking.

$500 for Maytags seems incredibly overpriced. Unless they are almost brand new or they are very very old and rare. Old maytags or still plentiful because hey were built like tanks. What models are they?

I agree, unless they are mint or completely restored to like-new condition and in a fabulous color like turquoise or pink, $500 would be a little high. There was an early 60's Maytag Highlander pair at the same estate sale I found the GE Mobile Maid dishwasher, they tried to get me to haul them off for free just to get rid of them. I ran as quick as I could out the door - pushing the Mobile Maid of course!

If someone ask's me to "make an offer",I always offer $1.00.If they seem upset,I tell them that they are the one's selling, and should set the price, not me.I'm not going to price your merchandise for you.
I agree with the others. I probably wouldn't go more than the $100.00 already offered,if they both work, and were in mint condition. But then I mostly buy for resale.

I got the set home on Wednesday, $200.00 for the pair, the washer works great, the dryer needs door seal, it has push buttons, no timer, electronic dry, everytime I close door dryer starts, is there something on the machine to start and stop dryer, owners manual with washer, with repair record, repair on dryer listed on back of dryer no manual, any ideas's
thanks

I would let the dryer run until it shuts off automaticaly.Once the button is pushed, the cycle begins. If it doesn't stop, either the control panel or the dryness sensor is bad.Maybe while it was being shown for sale,a lot of people played around with the controls. That would probably set the cycle to begin and is why the dryer runs when you plug it in.

If it's an electronic control model,it's important that the dryer has a seperate ground wire, going to a pipe or similar. Otherwise,it may not shut off.

Thanks Kenny for the tip, there is a ground clamp on the bottom of dryer, and it solved that problem, I ordered door gasket off repairapplianceclinic.com
Things should be in apple pie order by end of week
