Re: Pretty In Pink:

Oh! Beth Ann, where are you!!! What a great Kitchen Combo this is for someone close enough to where it is located to hopefully give it a proper home and a whole lot more "life" and operation. "BTW" it looks like the Dishwasher was updated, doesn't someone have a Pink GE Drawer Pull-Out Dishwasher of the late 50's early 60's???

Peace and Happy GE Combo Kitchen Bidding and Saving, Steve

Isn't it super. I was wondering about the DW as well. Either it's a replacement or the whole unit is possibly later than described?

The unit is newer than our blue and pink one. I say that because our combo is the first release and this is a later model. Also, our rollout is the pre-57 design with the more circular racking and the Bakelite impeller. Yes, the DW is a replacement and maybe not the first.

If we ever restore that first combo to operation, we are going to have to perform a door transplant or something to see what it does since the tumbling will be different with 4 baffles in the tub and the rinsing might be more thorough with spins after every drain.

The fall of 1957 was to be the only time my parents took us to the Southeastern Fair. It was held on the permanent fairgrounds with real exhibit halls. Two things standout from my experience. There was a booth with several aquariums and my dad talked with the man who owned the business about buying me an aquarium and later, somehow, I was allowed a bit of freedom to wander and I came upon some deserted booth with a GE portable dishwasher in operation with a bubble dome lid and a GE combo with window just washing away. The dishwasher must have been the new design and the racks were empty because two waves of water swept around that dome from the impeller's two launching points. Next to that the combo was a pretty tame show, but there was a bit of a puddle underneath the front of it where someone had opened it. My little 7 year old self was watching these two wonderful machines in as much ecstasy as I had ever known when my mom came up to the booth and the first words out of her mouth were, "You didn't cause that, did you?" as she referred to the little puddle in front of the combo. I reassured her that I did not, but she was not interested in either machine. I think it was the first time that I had been alone with appliances (and operating ones at that) without an adult coming over to me trying to interfere as I tried to soak up every detail about the machines. Oh, I also discovred that as magically as it was made, sort of appearing out of nothing in something electric, cotton candy was not to my liking.

No cotton candy for me either, but the pink kitchen is nice...

Tulsa is 7 hours away.

Do you have room for another kitchen, Bethann? Maybe you could enclose the front porch!

Wow!

The first one periodically shows up (in blue)as a POD. If I remember correctly, the POD mentions that the unit was available in some models in Levittown, PA, which was then being developed. I wonder how many of them were actually installed and -- even more important -- how many survived.

I like the fact that the controls are next to the stove.

I hope that someone is able to save both units!

Mike

Cool

Love it!
I think all the Frigidaires would get pissed if I brought a GE into the mix. Plus, I don't have anymore room. They sure are cool though.

Oh man, the second one is only 5 1/2 hours away from me! If only I had any use for this!

Man oh man what a find!
