Jeff & Tom pointed out to me I flubbed the original instructions for tweaking your SQ washers! So after going back and trying to read what I posted even I got confused. So here are the corrected easy instructions for upping your water levels and throwing out your warranties!!

There are only TWO adjustments you need concern yourself with. The important thing to remember is that both MUST be equal. If you turn one IN one turn you MUST turn the other one IN one turn.

Turns:
 1 turn in = up 1/4 inch

2 turns in = up to bottom of glass door

2 1/2 turns = 3 times the original factory setting =ample water IMHO.

So here is the photo, use the BLACK screw as your reference when viewing your water switch. Note both screws are on opposite sides of the connector bar.
Start your engines ladies and gentlemen!

Can you define what is meant by "in"?

I'm assuming that means clockwise to raise, counter clockwise to lower?

Where is this pressure switch located?

As well, perhaps you could provide a link to the older thread? I can Google it, but perhaps you'd already know. :)

I hope that the Speed Queens are still adjustable by the time I need a new one because I definitely want to do this, although I'm not sure what you mean by turn "IN" and does this need to be done at the same time and how exact does it have to be?

Post# 577174 , Reply# 5   2/20/2012 at 06:52 (4,420 days old) by Tomturbomatic (Beltsville, MD)

Lefty loosey, righty tighty; like turning a screw clockwise (to the right) to make it go in and counterclockwise to take it out. Both screws need to be adjusted, but you don't need to screw both at the same time. Just give them the same amount of screwing before you stop so both are screwed in the same amount and neither one is unsatisfied or jealous.

It would be very useful to share some pictures here that show what kind of water level is considered giving ample water....

Yes, I agree that that's the perfect water level. Now I REALLY want a SQ.

I know some machines on the market do not allow you to adjust by the way they are designed.

I fill mine much higher on the glass for rinsing, but it is a manual operation. Jon, your video is paired with a really cute video of Loki the cat being fascinated by the human servant's flushing of the toilet. You Tube is so educational.

That's a very good level...plenty of wash action and water. I didn't realize that the water comes from the top front center and onto the load. I have been thinking of maybe getting an SQ front loader for here in Mass. I like the simple controls....

Look at all that water!

Could have saved a lot of money buy just buying a direct-drive Whirlpool for $348 on sale at The Mart.  Get one before they're gone :-)

you could open/close the door quickly- but all that water will fall out.

Gansky you will be GONE to the MART before I'm through with you!

Mike- the fins on the drum are solid sided not perforated and so I just saw that that creates a  real lifting action to the water and picks it up and sloshes it over the top of the load as it tumbles. With the big window door you can see this, with Gansky's tiny porthole machine this is lost to history!

Interesting video.

In another thread water levels were discussed. Conclusion was that a too high water level in the wash would result in worse cleaning results because laundry has to tumble, not roll over in the wash. Higher water levels are good for rinsing, roll over is good enough for rinsing.

Does this machine have different water levels for washing and rinsing? And does it have a higher water level in the delicate cycle?

Louis, this is a SQ, not a Miele! No difference in water levels for washing & rinsing.

Port Hole Sizes

combo52's profile picture

Grey, Jeff and I all have small port holes, I always thought that smaller was considered much more desirable.

Port Holes

macboy91si's profile picture

Well... The larger portholes only give the "appearance" or larger capacity. Sure it's easier to get things in and out of, but the small port holes still serve the purpose, you just have to load and unload it a little slower.

eee gads

No Tim

jetcone's profile picture

you have load and unload with more vigor as large items get stuck sometimes in the smaller port holes.

SQ washer fins

I have had many delicate items and draw strings get caught at the end of these fins. They do not go all the way the the sides if the drum. Only complaint and no water level adj.

Jocks,

Are you talking about a Top Loader or a Front Loader?

To Jocks54

If you are talking about a front loader, you are going to find that problem with ANY front loader on the market.

Anything with draw strings must have the draw strings removed or tightly tied up before they are washed.

It even says in the manual (I'm paraphrasing) that extremely delicate items should be encased in some kind of a cloth bag or pantyhose.

However, we're off topic at this point in time and I'm going to drop it here..

Sheesh you guys.. Portholes indeed. :)

Nudged Mine Up...

mrb627's profile picture
a little bit last night. Now when the water pools between rotations sequences, it just touches the glass.

Ran a load of dog blankets through last night with no extra rinse selected. The big difference? No dog hair left inside the tub. Not sure if I will leave the water at this level or not. Will need to run a weeks worth of washing through and guage the results.

To Malcolm

How exactly do you get at the pressure sensor anyway?

I wonder if its any different between a rear control and a front control machine.

How many turns did you use?

Pressure Switch Location

mrb627's profile picture
In the Speed Queen Imperials, the pressure switch is in the rear of the top of the machine. Not at the front where the controls are located. I imagine they are in a very near location to the read controlled models.

I think total, it is probably 2 complete turns in. Should know by Saturday afternoon if I will leave it at the level or back it off a half a turn or so.
