Have any of you ever experienced a motor that seems to tire out? My grandparents had a 1990 Kenmore all in one, made by Frigidaire. At the start of the wash cycle, it would start and sound fine, and the tub used to index at least halfway around each time. however as the end of the 10 minute wash approached, you could hear the motor get quieter and if you watched, the tub would only index a couple of inches by this time, the agitator still seems to be working ok. Then in the spin the same thing would happen, you could hear the motor fluctuate between fast and slower, as if it couldn' keep it. I always remembered we never did back to back loads because I never thought it could handle it. Never experienced this on any other brand I've used.

Tired Washer Motor ?

Induction motors that are used on standard washers and dryers do not get tired and slow down, they run at full speed until they are in serious shape and screech to a halt or just won't start at all. Your Grandparents washer probably has a worn belt and or it may be getting wet from a small leak or it may even be getting oil on it from a leaky transmission.
