My grandmother has a Hoovermatic Twin Tub that is her pride and joy. She has changed belts throughout the years and takes very good care of it. It has recently started to make a very loud noise when it is turned on. We have decided it is the impeller (more specifically the metal wheel on the back side of the washer). It seems to be vibrating as it turns. Any suggestions on how to tighten the metal wheel? Or replace the impeller? Any one else have a similar issue? Being that we are in the US, parts for this are not available and she is having a very hard time understanding that it may not be able to be fixed. Thanks so much!

bushing

sounds like the impeller shaft bushing has gotten dry of oil and gummed up-might
be able to fix it by taking the pulley off and cleaning and re oiling the impeller
shaft and the bushing.
