Hi, I just recently purchased an E model Maytag. First of all does anyone know what kind of grease/oil goes in the end cap of the wringer mechanism? The gasket was shot and when we pulled it apart it was FULL of thick black sticky kind of oil or grease. My husband and I are assuming this was original. It is all cleaned up and ready to put back together, but we have no ideal what kind of lubricant to use. Also, does anyone know where to purchase the goose neck spout, as this one has a pump, but no goose neck. Think we may have to replace the belt also. The serial # on the machine is E179574P. Thank-you

I am not sure about the grease but my old Maytag is your vintage and does leak grease down the leg under the wringer but still works fine. As far as the gooseneck, it is a regular hose connection. There is someone on E-Bay selling one last time I looked or you could fashion one out of an old garden hose. My gooseneck finally broke off and I am going to try to redo it someday but use a piece of garden hose for now and it works fine.

I'm thinking 90W lubricant woukd work, it's been a long time since I've been in a Maytag gearcase.

Phil's Maytag Sales/Service/Parts

I think, is your best bet. From my understanding he has a repair shop in up state New York and works on vintage Maytag wringers. The Email address I have for him is ovidny@gmail.com I also have a phone # for him as well. I have talked to him on the phone before, and he is very nice, can answer all your questions, and has the service manuals and parts for sale, for Maytage wringers.
Hope this helps!

Thank you all

Thank you for your replies! Stan, I can't find Phil's online, so will be emailing him this am. These machines seem to simple, yet finding parts can be quite complicated.

I think that Phil's fleabay name is Cayuga2, or something similar. I've gotten several parts from him, and always been pleased. He's most helpful.

Hello Katiesgram,

Can you post a photo of the wringer?

On the age, if I'm reading the datecode chart correctly, it looks like it was built in August, 1961.

Kevin

Phil will have any part you need!
Let me know if you have any problem reaching him.
In the past I have called him for a part, and he will post the part requested on Ebay as as "buy it now" and i have always found the price reasonable!

I agree

with all written above about Phil. I have bought many, many parts from him and his price has always been reasonable and the quality of his product is very good. I have also talked with him on the phone several times and he certainly does know about Maytag Wringers. I would recommend him whole heartily to you. I have his phone number, price sheet and his cell number which he uses if you may be interested. If so, please send me an email via the club and I will gladly forward it to you. He is in his mid 70's but sounds like he is a kid LOL. Good luck !!

Jim
