I'm working on a 1983 Kenmore 70 Series and I just reinstalled the transmission and a new basket drive after a bearing job. Now, all it wants to do is spin. I can hear the solenoid on the wig wag clicking, but it has no effect on the spinning.
For whatever it's worth, the spring between the transmission and the basket drive yoke looks a little bent out of shape at one end. Would that cause this issue? As a side note, I have bought some POR-15 for the centerpost and some areas of the cabinet. Any tips on how best to apply it? How many coats? Can I paint over it with Whirlpool spray paint to match the cabinet? Help please! Dave |

I installed a new-to-me basket drive. The transmission and basket drive assembly seated properly, but could the upper brake drum be out of adjustment? I can take it out, compress the springs a bit and tighten the set screw if it's off.
The spin cam slides when it's supposed to and the yoke does drop some when spin is supposed to engage, but during agitation when the yoke is raised, it still spins. Joy! Dave |

Sounds like you need to back off the adjustment nut or add steel washers on the long bolt that raises and lowers the yoke via the spin cam bar. The clutch lining is too close to the spin pulley, causing spin in agitation. Hope this helps! |
