'60s Kenmore set locally. Thought somebody might be interested. A little much on price, but perhaps they could be talked down.

Not a bad looking set. Price is a bit high, but not outrageous, if they work.

Do the letters on the console light up at all?

Yuk Martin!

But, no, I like this set, and if it found it's way to Charlotte the machines could have free room and board, but I think there are AW.orgers who are more interested in these than I am.

There are about 8 or so Kenmores that I have yet to find which I would run toward with little regard for bug smashing (break out the goggles!), but this pair doesn't feel like one of those right now.

As I've said before, I done got enough for now...

Oh yeah...

To be precise, I think the machines are 1968 800s. The original iteration of this washer had the Roto-Flex, later updates had the Vari-Flex I do believe.

These are indeed 1968 800s, and were very flexible models. The auxiliary dial regulated speed, and the two levers controlled water level and temperature. The later Vari-Flex agitator version featured only one lever for temperature control, and the auxiliary dial became the level selector. The speed option must have become a cycle selection in the alphabet.

Andy: I do not believe the alphabet panels light up. That probably would be overkill as the console light on this model overhangs like a bonnet, illuminating both panels sufficiently.

Kevin: Good job in finding a set of these in avocado.

I like them, if only they were 5 years older... I made a rule no appliance after 1963! I still would like a Maytag A700 set. Those lighted controls... drool... That said I hope someone saves them.

Seller told me this morning I had the set. Just emailed me that he had another offer that went to his spam folder, He said it was sent before my offer. I made the offer on Monday. Sounds like someone just out bid me after I had an agreement with seller. I guess it wasn't in my cards to have them. I hope whoever gets them will enjoy them as much as I would have..........

No such thing as a stupid question, right?

What is that thing in the dryer with the metal grid like thing set into the plastic...it looks like the little buttons on it once said "solid state"... is it to detect eventual dryness of the clothing?

Metal grid on the dryers drum back

combo52's profile picture

This is the sensor strips that electrically sense the moisture content of the clothing being dried. When manufactures first used electronic sensor systems on dryers they went a little over board but soon learned that it was not necessary to have more than two little sensor strips as they all do today.
