See my original post-- Now I finally have it downstairs, and what a boring POS this is, glad it was free. As far as screeching, I agree it's loud, but I'm not hearing what I'd call a screech, so I've run 6 or 7 loads. POOR RINSES----that spray lasts only 27 seconds and doesn't much hit the clothes, the flume is so dumb.
Decent turnover and agitation, better than some extraction speed and the pump is rapid, then that piss poor spray rinse, what a waste. For me, this will always need a 2nd rinse machine, it's just horrible.
Fun to have the front off and see that plastic exterior tub, the others I have from 60's and 70's are all porcelain everywhere. And I' ve never seen a direct drive---though this is hybrid, a belt for the transmission but a direct drive pump. The suspension and all those extra springs make for a smooth spin, true.
And another thing------no choice of water temp for rinse, only cold. Also, 3 levels of water, I didn't realize til now that all my other machines are infinite level, I'm quite used to that.
More complaints---I'm rarely a grumpy guy, but this machine just sucks---4 cycles???????? I washed on each cycle and then read the timer chart and schematic, the only difference between regular and casual is the first extraction on casual is low speed spin, while regular has hi speed everything. No cool-down rinse/spray/agi/refill or anything on casual, so the only diff is speed of 1st extraction. Then there's both Delicate and handwash, both are entirely low speed, and both are agi-soak-agi-soak type of cycles. Delicate has 4 times of soak-agi, handwash has 3. No other differences in those 2 cycles. So really, in my book, there's really just a highspeed cycle and a low speed cycle, nothing else.
The suspension seems solid, spin is great, turnover pretty good (can't match the 60's and 70's GE FF or Norge or Whirlpool, but surely beats the Maytag, and the 1-18 beats them all.
So as to the "screeching" bearings I was warned about by the previous owner---it's almost as loud as the 1-18 and the Norge in high speed spin, but's it's also very even noise, nothing metal grinding/whining/screeching. Is that likely the bearings? AM I gonna hurt anything any more by living with this noise a while?
I have to add some piece of plastic or something to the bottom of the flume, where it comes out the tub cover, to get it to actually hit the clothes while spraying. Then if I add in a timer-kill switch so I can extend the spray to a minute or so, maybe I'll get my decent rinses.
I've griped enough. For someone who just throws in clothes and Tide and hits a button, I guess this works. For me, watching and seeing everything, rinsing is very very poor, and this 4 cycle machine is really just high or low speed. Like I said, I'm very glad it was free.
Now it's dinnertime, that always puts me in a better mood. Thanks Mark
