This flew off of the NH craigslist page at me - too bad they don't have a "money shot" to see if all the upper rack sections and detergent cup are there!

I am not going to even think of this one because a) I have one and b) hubby has been following the 'My Crazy Obsession' thread and thinks I owe HIM $40,000 for 'loss of enjoyment of basement and garage'   LOL

Basements and garages are highly overrated if you don't collect.

I've sent the seller a message

I have a 2500 square foot basement and it is my dream to fill it with dishwashers. I just sent the seller a text message - if he is willing to ship it, I am going to take it.

turquoisedude - thanks for the heads up on finds like this. My dream machine is a kenmore roto-rack - with the "softly lighted consoled and temperature indicator". Preferably a Lady Kenmore. If you come across one of these, I am willing to travel if need be.

Oh how wild - you just described my ultimate 'dream dishwasher'!!  If I find one, you may have to race me for it... LOL

No race needed...

All he has to do is clue in hubby and you'll have to decide if the dream machine is worth the $40,000. LOL!

Looking good thus far

I talked to the guy last night - I am the only one who has responded and he has agreed to ship it, if I can make it convenient. Guess what I'll be researching today.

On a side note, it is going to be a great weekend - 2 reverse rack maytags coming (ok, one is a jenn-air, but no need to split hairs).

COOL!  Congratulations!!   Just curious,  does the machine have all three upper-rack sections??

Good question

william637's profile picture
You know, that is a great question - when I call back to talk to him this evening or tommorow I will have to ask. He has told me that it ran fine when he used it, but it has been sitting in his storage unit for about a year to a year and a half now. He also said it was in very good shape.

In case you have ever wondered, I am getting freight quotes ranging from $300 to $600 thus far for shipping.

"softly lighted consoled and temperature indicator". Preferably a Lady Kenmore"

... back in the day...  1983ish...   I must have come across five of those.  both portable and built-in.  Some had the electro-mechanical  timer mounted underneath the tub, to the front, others hanging off and behind the control panel.

My guess is they moved the timer underneath to take weight off the door.   There were all these light blue colored wires running between the panel and the timer.  Each with it's own colored stripe to identify it.

The panels weren't exactly softly lit.  There were two incandescent appliance bulbs in the button recess, then of course, there were all the other cycle progress lights that would illuminate in a faded orange color, to the right of the buttons.  All this mounted in a solid metal/chrome frame.

I never had the models with the energy saver switch.  I think most were scraped.  Never would have thought anyone would desire one years later.   Wish I had them now for someone else to have fun with.

Best of luck finding one.

Actually, if your interested, I saw a coffee colored portable, in a barn, in storage, in the Fall of 2010 in central Wisconsin.  It was a family farm.  If your interested, email me and I can get you information where it was.  It had been sitting there for quite a while (dusty).  My guess is it is still there along with another portable DW, the brand of which I don't know.

Could be interested

Thanks applianceguy

I might be interested in the coffee brown portable. As luck would would have it, I am finding several cool machines back to back right now. Of course, this isn't particularly good for my wallet at the time. I know what you mean about the "softly lighted console" not being so soft. My aunt had a coffee-brown LK that I dream of. I just get a kick out of the ad calling it "softly lit". I have that ad saved as my computer background.

I sealed the deal with guy in NH last night. He has agreed to wrap and ship it. I am going to be sending him payment today. So that is one out of the way.

Last night I picked up a portable BOL beltdrive maytag. Hooked it up last night and it purred like a dream. I didn't realize how quiet the motors were on those units. The only real noise is from the water spraying in the tub (and that is what we really want to hear anyway, isn't it?)

Tommorow I go to Viriginia to pick up a MOL beltdrive built-in jenn-air. I think after I do touch up on the racks of the portable and the built-in, I may rip the two new KA's out of my kitchen and install these.

The biggest find, however, has been a Coffee Brown, Top-Load, Portable Lady Kenmore Roto-Rack. It does not have the "softly lighted console", and lord only knows if it works. the craigslist ad for it was over a month old, but when I called last night the wife said they still had it. I need to talk to the husband though about specifics. He never called back - I guess I will try again tonight.

Keep your fingers crossed....
