This kenmore 70 (82874130) has stoped at the end of wash cylce . I am guessing it is the lid switch as no pump or spin. I hate working on these as I spend forever trying to get the cabinet back on so please give me any other advice as what might be wrong with it. Does anyone know when it was made? We bought it for a rent unit around 1992 or 1993 but I think it was old stock at the store. Thanks for any info. Charlie

Change the lid switch assembly.

Unfortunately the lid switch may need replaced, and the cabinet does have to come off to repair/replace it.......

although, it can be done thru the lid opening, using care, you can take out the screws, and install a new one, just may be a little tricky, and you may need another pair of hands.....your choice to replace, or cut the wires and twist/tape them together, and tuck out of the way....

let us know how you make out

Well I called the parts store (former Maytag dealer) and told them whats was going on and the slight noise that was made with heavy loads like towels or jeans. They think I may have a cluch going as the noise has been more noticed more with small loads to. So I may just junk it... Thanks for the info.

Clutch is only a $50 part and pretty easy to replace in a DD machine. No need to remove the cabinet, just lay the machine on its side. Everything can be done from the bottom. Is it pumping the water out but not spinning? Are the clothes just lying there in a soppy lump at the end? Is the machine pumping the bulk of the washtub water out?

If you open the lid and "fool" the bypass switch can you get it to start spinning by "helping" the tub at the beginning? If that's the case then it is definitely the clutch. A new clutch after 20 years isn't too bad. I have replaced clutches in DD machines after 5 years of "commercial style" use.

If you can't get it to even start to spin a little bit that way then it MAY be that the transmission isn't engaging in spin at all. In my experience that is an unusual problem with a Whirlpool/Kenmore Direct Drive transmission. But it is possible.

This washer has had very light use. The tenate was a older lady and she did maybe 2 loads a week. She moved about 8 years ago and I have used it some (2 or 3 loads a month) . The washer has been noisy last few times of use. I can get it to wash for a short time then nothing for drain or wont spin even with a little help. I unplugged it and shoved a Cabrio in that I switch out with every few months (dont care for the Cabrio ) I guess Ill just scrap the kenmore along with a few other dead washers
