Unfortunately the lid switch may need replaced, and the cabinet does have to come off to repair/replace it.......
although, it can be done thru the lid opening, using care, you can take out the screws, and install a new one, just may be a little tricky, and you may need another pair of hands.....your choice to replace, or cut the wires and twist/tape them together, and tuck out of the way.... let us know how you make out |

Clutch is only a $50 part and pretty easy to replace in a DD machine. No need to remove the cabinet, just lay the machine on its side. Everything can be done from the bottom. Is it pumping the water out but not spinning? Are the clothes just lying there in a soppy lump at the end? Is the machine pumping the bulk of the washtub water out?
If you open the lid and "fool" the bypass switch can you get it to start spinning by "helping" the tub at the beginning? If that's the case then it is definitely the clutch. A new clutch after 20 years isn't too bad. I have replaced clutches in DD machines after 5 years of "commercial style" use. If you can't get it to even start to spin a little bit that way then it MAY be that the transmission isn't engaging in spin at all. In my experience that is an unusual problem with a Whirlpool/Kenmore Direct Drive transmission. But it is possible. |
